AntrimBlack
I like Baker. A big old fashioned centre back. It will be interesting to see if he can improve his game and become more consistent.
osmark86
if he is to have a bright future at the club, then he should be looking to improve a lot.
avfc1982am
Wonder if this means this summers shopping is over? Okore, Clark, Richards, Baker, Crespo, Senderos. Even if Senderos goes I cant see us using 6 CB's. Little disappointed but overall very happy with the additions so not complaining at all. Adebayor on board, Clarks contract sorted and we are good to go imo.

Supervillan78
So does Baker signing his new contract mean Clark's on the way out? I would really be pissed if that was the case. Edited July 31, 2015 by Supervillan78
Demitri_C
no i think it means we have no plan b after lescott so instead gave baker a new deal this is a bizarre move from the club
VillaChris
His best performances for us tended to come alongside Vlaar, he was excellent at Spurs when he came on. Not sure which CB he'd gel the best with out of the current lot, certainly not Clark!

Tubby
Pleased for Baker. Always liked him, always plays like a proper centre back, true Villan and glad he's getting the opportunity to stick around. #futurecaptain
ismail-villa
Don't see how some find it strange about the new deal. He's still relatively young for a CB, with plenty of chances to improve. Same happened with Clark and now he's the first choice CB.

dont_do_it_doug.
God that is lame giving him a new four year deal. Seems like a panic afterwards can't get lescott Panic? Does anything this club have achieved this summer strike you as "panic"? Baker will always have resale value, a player that works as hard as he does and puts his body on the line like him will always be of value to somebody. Makes good financial sense to keep him on. **** all to do with Lescott.

That is strange very strange. Don't rate baker at all, to offer him a four deal is madness

If this year has taught Fox & Co anything it will be to not allow contracts to dwindle until a players value becomes ridiculously low, or to the point of being held over a barrel by the player. RoyalVilla
I like Baker. Committed, strong and dominant in the air. Been with Villa since he was 8, which is probably longer than quite a few on this forum have been fans. On the other hand he isn't the quickest so he really needs to improve his decision making and reading of the game. He's got time on his side and is young for a prem CB without a lot of pace, so he could make it. Also, just because he's signed a new deal, doesn't mean he'll not go out on loan. Will be interesting to see what our CB options are when the transfer window closes slams shut.
