People were saying Bruce was good for Jack. I said Jack attributed it to Terry more.

A week later Bruce said he was disappointed not to move and plays him out of position.

Played him wide didn’t he? I read that. If not then my bad I’ve not seen the highlights yet

Digging out Bruce after not watching the game...

He played centre midfield

I wouldn't have said Grealish played wide today.

In fairness my mate who went told me “he wasn’t as free as he was at the back end of last season, more out wide to make room for McGinn (who played well) and less effective and we pumped it again so it was awful to watch”

My post was because I took that as being absolutely ridiculous if you’re Jack.

Nope, McGinn was significantly better, Grealish has underperformed in both games so far.

And I think the novelty factor is leading to McGinn's performance being a tad overrated here. Opinions eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think thats right but I will say its under performed only by Grealish's own high standards.

I can see him and McGinn becoming a genuinely fantastic partnership though.

He’s doing ok, not brilliant, but ok.

At the risk of being given loads of grief - based on the performance of McGinn today, and the fact Adomah and Green havnt looked great so far, I would be tempted to play Grealish on the left, if it means we can still get Hourihane on the team.

The way Kodjia is looking, we are going to need a lot of goals from midfield, and Hourihane will get us at least 10 if he plays regularly.

I have a feeling Jack might get a bit more space playing left as well, if McGinn continues as he did today.

That would then give us a choice of Jedi/Whelan/Thor as the holding midfielder, and Green/Adomah/Elmo on the right. Which would probably mean Green and Adomah on the bench!

Anyway, it will never happen as I don’t think Bruce would ever even consider it.

Didn't see today but interesting thoughts. Can't wait to see McGinn.

I'm not a big fan of Hourihane as he disappears constantly. His goals make him valuable though so I agree, getting him in the team is worthwhile.

I think some real wheels on the right hand side would give us some options if this played out as you suggested.

Grief? I think I read somewhere that he also likes to play on the left so maybe not a bad idea.

Honestly there's no reason why the three of them can't start together, we need to be more expansive, no need for defensive specialists at this level for a lot of the games, if we keep the ball better and press higher we can have Hourihane, McGinn and Grealish in the centre. Only thing holding us back is Steve Bruce.

He wasn't allowed to play today because the referee allowed every Wigan player at least one if not two fouls on him. All of them could potentially have led to bookings.

He did as well as could be expected, Wigan made sure they had as many players marking him as possible. Sometimes that's difficult to play against.

By far our most effective player today, he ran the show, I was amazed that McGinn ran away with the motm award, I think there's a shiny new player factor involved there personally.

I think Jack may have been mentally and emotionally fatigued today, at the end of the game he dropped to the ground and just lay there for a while.

Whatever the finer details, it will have been a roller-coaster for him.

I think his next performance will be devastatingly good.

Discraceful from the Sky Championship Goals coverage tonight.

Still banging on about Jack moving to a bigger club and how he needs to perform exceptionally over the next few months to earn his move in January.  They just won't let it rest.

Stephen Warnock being the worst culprit.

It’s annoying theme, refs taking til the 70th minute to start booking players clearly targeting him.

It’s a team tactic to foul him, refs need to spot it and tell the captain that the next player who does it intentionally, regardless of whether they’ve done it already, are in the book.

Bruce has also got to cop on to it. Make a big deal out of it in press conferences, start to pressure the refs in to doing something about it. He played under Fergie who was the master at that type of stuff. We've been too nice for far too long. It's not a nice way of going about your business but it's the way the game is.

Needs some protection from referees. He gets kicked black and blue in every game.

The referee was an extra level of special today.

I used to think the referees in the PL were bad, but the few matches I have seen in the Championship, it is frightening how bad the referees are. It is like they have just pulled someone out of the pub and given them some kit sometimes. I am sure one last season was waddling around the pitch with a beer gut.

Today was the first time I have seen him live. Sadly I don’t get to many games, but I thought he played well as he could considering. I echo the above in that referees need to be doing more to protect him. He just makes defenders look foolish and they kick him and referees let players get away with it. He just seems to drop a dummy and drift past players easily. I can see him and McGinn developing a good partnership in midfield together given time.
