Summer Transfer Window 2023

Don't think JWP would be worth going for personally.

Not because he isn't a decent footballer but because for the amount we'd likely have to spend it probably wouldn't be worth doing so on a player who isn't an improvement IMO on the starting 11 and he will also be turning 29 later this year.

I expect Emery will have smarter business in mind.

With the constant rumours re Guendouzi suggesting that deal is all but done this is never going to happen. Three from Kamara, Luiz, mcginn and Guendouzi with dendonker and Iroegbunam providing further depth is ridiculous depth.

A Saints fan was on Talksport when I was travelling back from the game. He was saying that Ward Prowse is poor at passing and is basically just a set piece specialist.

Their fans are obviously hurting, so all of their players are a target for them at the moment. He's a bit more than that and what a set piece specialist he is, but UE may well be looking elsewhere.

I was listening to talk shite in the car on the way back from the game today. They had a few Southampton fans on, who both seemed really well rounded.

Both said people outside of Southampton rated JWP more than Southampton fans. They were worried about losing a couple of their young players, but didn’t seem bothered about JWP.

They probably know and accept that JWP's on his way, he's too good for the Championship and may have a relegation clause in that contract that he signed, when we were linked with him. Those young players will likely be off too, as we found, players that get you relegated will look for moves when it actually happens. Lavia is the pick of that bunch, but I think some of the usual suspects have already been linked with him. .

Yeah all fair points mate, I remember us going down so I know the Saints fans must be hurting.

But honestly mate, the fans that called up were so level headed. It didn’t seem like they were clutching for positives about JWP leaving, they were basically worried about the young guys leaving.

I don’t watch any football thst isn’t Aston Villa so I don’t have an opinion of JWP, but just the tone of the Southampton fans yesterday makes me think he’s not someone I’d like to sign.

Is Guendouzi an upgrade on Luiz, McGinn, Dendonker or Iroegbunam? Because if he is there’s your answer. But it’s not necessarily three from them, maybe it’s two, and maybe Kamara and Guendouzi will anchor our midfield as a two with more offensive/creative players ahead of them.

The age, potential and resale value factors should all be considered.

I think this is Emerys plan. Ugarte/Guend kind of player to play alongside Kamara, and then as good a quality players we can attract to replace Bailey and Buendia. I think he likes Ramsey.

I don’t believe JWP is an upgrade on the current midfield. At best for us he is a specialist player who you could bring on when chasing the game, hoping to get a free kick within range. Yes he could start 20+ games a season, but Emery wants players who are an upgrade on the current squad.

The game could well be going that way with a free kick specialist, but can’t see him sitting on a bench for Villa or the club affording him for that role.

I already said I don't think we should sign him and I don't think he would fit into our team.

I said this in the Relegation thread but the disrespect JWP gets on here is unreal...  You'd think he's Hourihane 2.0 with a better free kick but a worse footballer by some.

JWP has consistently put up solid numbers for a team that was slowly getting asset stripped over the last 5 years.  I honestly could see him being very good for Man United alongside Casemero in the role Eriksen is playing for them, at West Ham alongside Declan Rice, or at Liverpool if they sign a quality DM.  He would honestly thrive in Douglas Luiz's spot at Villa under Emery's system.  He's going to end up having a great season next year no matter where he ends up.  I really don't see him coming to Villa, but if Emery did end up wanting him at the club I think he'd do well for us.

Whatever mate 😅

If we are serious about pushing the top 6 then Dendoncker and Iroegbunam should be nowhere near the team.

We really need to upgrade on a good few of our squad if we want to go places and those 2 would be am obvious place to start.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ward-Prowse was still at Southampton next season, if not will probably end up at one of the survivors from Leeds, Everton, Leicester, or Forest, maybe West Ham.

Yep. He is exactly the kind of player Everton would sign for 50 million and on big wages.

But with Rice leaving West Ham, that would be an obvious move on paper.

Where's this Ward Prowse rumour even come from?

Back in summer 2021 Luiz was promising but still very inconsistent in games. McGinn ended that season pretty poorly and Kamara was just a kid at Marseille. Back then Dendoncker would've been starting every week for us so we're in a totally different place at CM now compared to two years ago.

Ramsey aswell only had about 10-15 senior games back then and if we get a few injuries we can always move him back to CM.

Maybe it's Lange's parting gift before Alemany comes and gives us 2-3 more Kamaras in his first transfer window.

Nailed on West Ham if Moyes is still there. West Ham game plan  is built around set pieces, he would be perfect for a Moyes team.

I can see us finding new clubs for Nakamba, Sanson, Dendoncker trying to get a loan for Coutinho.

Then adding in a couple more players in the central and wide midfield spots. Guendouzi and another. Making Luiz and McGinn have to up their game another level or spend more time on the bench.

I feel JJ is improving and continues to improve. He's now got 5 goals and 5 assists this season. But tellingly he's got 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 10 games. We add in additional attacking talent and he'll find more space to get into the box.

JJ and Kamara have very high ceilings. I think Guendouzi does too he turned 24 last month. Luiz keeps surprising. McGinn in there too. There's a tenacious talented midfield Emery will have on his hands next season.

It's the attacking talent that needs to be sorted we need two more on Watkins level or above added.
