well ye, i wouldnt say they were top 6 either tbh, possibly Nunez aside.

weghorst will be replaced by manure at the first opportunity, and tbh Isak is newcastle's "proper" striker (if you just choose a clubs best striker), who does look really, really good.

Just an opinion thing tho, i accept it no probs if you think Watkins is top 6 standard, i just dont personally.

Thats not to say i dont think he's a good striker, i just dont think he's a next level type of striker, that's just my opinion tho, i would be happy if he proved me wrong.

Now factor that in when we go shopping this summer...

If there's a glaringly obvious top 6 quality striker available, let's say vlahovic for £50m, who goes in for him? Us, utd, arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton, maybe Newcastle, maybe liverpool

I think the wider issue is that there aren't many "top 6" strikers available in general and the market for one would be insane, everyone bar man City and spurs are shopping for a guaranteed 20 goal a season striker

And we need goalscorers not necessarily a striker

Replace Bailey and Buendia with players who get 10 goals each and the problem is solved

He'd have improved us in summer 2021. Not now. As above he's got West Ham written all over him post Rice to fill that void.

Not sure I agree, he's always gonna look poor in that Southampton team, although not saying he's a top 4 player.

I don't think he takes us up a level. We need better than Luiz McGinn and Kamara.

I'm not sure whether you are saying that those 3 aren't good enough or that if we sign midfielders (or anyone for that matter) then they should be upgrades on our current starting players?  I think probably the latter.

In my view Luiz and Kamara are easily good enough for getting us to the next level (if we can keep Kamara fit to really build the partnership) and are at least as good as the teams we will be targetting next season.  McGinn in patches - but will be a fantastic player to be bringing on for the last 30 and actually not a big drop-off when we have suspensions (I'd include JJ and Buendia as really strong options off the bench too).  I think we will see at least one more midfielder signed over the summer and that having been the weak link for a while, midfield will be one of our strongest units next season (injuries permitting).  But yeah for me JWP isn't going to strengthen our starting quartet so wouldn't be on my list of targets.

Wasn't he one of those London boys who didn't want to leave London? Might have changed now but so has the price tag.

He'd be more expensive now for sure - but I don't think that we wouldn't be able to get him.  Realistically Palace have reached their ceiling and so we can (hopefully!) offer more.  That said I would also be surprised if (after the summer) he'd be good enough for a starting position in our first XI as we are almost certain to be strengthening in his position.

Wonderful player and as you say missed the boat unfortunately , the time to sign was when he was still at QPR

I think the other thing I would add is that I don't think Watkins is a striker either.  In that he isn't limited to just prowling the box and scoring goals.  He's good dropping deeper to drag defenders out of position, he's good at drifting wide and attacking the channel between the fullback and the centre forward (although I don't want him going much wider than that).  So other forwards who are equally versatile would give us a really dynamic attacking threat that would be hard to defend against.  I like Ollie attacking the back-line with the ball in front of him - he just seems quicker and stronger doing that than he is when he has his back to goal.  I'd be pretty happy to have "two Ollies" looking to run onto passes from the midfield and then a wider player who can pick the ball up and dribble at pace.  Would also make us more effective against teams that drop deep as we'd have two players trying to make space in the box and more width to try and drag the opposition wide and make space.

The most hilarious bullshit you'd ever read.

If Barca didn't want to sell to Villa they wouldn't. It's not like Alemany is bestowing some kindness on them. Plus if Barca want to sell players to bring in money why would selling to a club they'll likely never play not be desirable.

It's hilarious. Got a good laugh outta that.

It’s tragically hilarious when you consider Barca desperately need to sell players. Their fan base is just inhaling a lot of copium.

I just hope whoever we sign can hit them from distance

who was the last player we had that you had faith to hit the target and score from outside the box? Hourhane, el ghazi on a good day?

it really limits us that working it to the edge of the box is pointless because we don’t have someone deadly from 20+ yds out

Almost no sides have a free kick specialist now. Ironically the side who have a genuine specialist have just been relegated.

We’ve scored 2 goals from direct free kicks this season, I’d love to see what the top sides have done (bet it’s barely any).

Only 3 players have more than 1 goal from a free kick this season. JWP, Maddison and Toney

City have scored 1 and United, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool havent scored one

I do have a slight worry about our wage bill 4 top signings will add £25m to our annual wage bill. I think in the coming period over next 3 years profit on player trading will be very important to add additional income. While we grow our additional income streams

I think he was talking more about from open play - i.e. how many goals do we get from long range shots or from outside the box?  The threat of having someone who can drive a shot in from distance means that defences can't drop too deep.  Although they aren't generally a very high reward tactic - especially given how much more athletic keepers have become.  Personally I am less worried about that - I think if we improve our front three then our midfield are likely to get more chances next season from the second ball anyway - i.e. a defensive header out to the edge of the box or a rebound falling into a similar area.

Not even talking about free kicks to be honest, just someone who can lash one goalwards with purpose from outside the box in open play

When I have seen Eze he's been excellent. Didn't he have a bad injury a while ago (achilles or something)? I take it that he's recovered fully? I don't watch CP much.
