The Fun Factory
We were told though that Gerrard also spent endless hours preparing the match and analysing each player. Either that was bullshit or what he told them made them perform even worse.

I expect it might be fluid for some but that's not for this thread. I expect Unai's nationality would state Spanish on his passport and he'll be cheering on Spain in the WC. Isn't his only involvement in basque football been with Real Sociedad? I believe they are less explicitly nationalist than Athletic Bilbao. Plus he moved out of the area in his early 20s and has managed all around Spain and elsewhere.

Popular Post StanBalaban
After enduring Gerrard, and seeing the level of loyalty that Beale is showing to QPR, just makes me feel ever so grateful to have this man as our manager.
Popular Post TRO
It does seem to be a much better fit with Unai, but its early days, and we have been here before. In terms of the elite status, we haven't been here before, so I am clinging to his winning record as a game changer for our managers. It does seem different, this time, but I don't want to get ahead of myself and just see how it pans out. We made a mistake with Steven Gerrard, but the constant referring to his errors are of no consequence to me, he's gone..... we have moved on. Unai is the future, and the past is like a vanishing mist, clinging to the mistakes is negative, lets move our thoughts towards the future.... We will never know the details, behind Gerrards tenure, so speculating is just pointless. The players seem excited with Unai's approach and his level of tuition, The league results have been impressive, lets just embrace that and bin the last attempt.
Popular Post MWARLEY2
Everything is set up for us to punch our weight . A world class training facility, lots of talented players. An ultra supportive ownership group. My view is that this is all we needed . A proper coach. The best we have ever had to walk into our club. A man who likes to upset the odds. Who will use youth players. And who will treat the club as if its his own like Wenger did. He is a coach not a cheque book manager. And if he recruits cleverly and integrates the best of the youth we will be looking right up the table. I think he is here for a long time. I think he will learn to truly love this club and what he offers is the ability to punch above his weight . To outthink rival coaches and to fill players with huge confidence. And equally importantly he has something to prove. He isnt here as a stop gap. He wants to be successful in the Prem . And he will work and work until that happens. They bought the club when we were in dire straits and pulled us from the brink. They sacked Bruce and brought in the perfect manager for us at the time. Who united our fanbase. And now Nas lost it with Gerrard, fired him that night at Fulham and 5 days later brought Emery on board. This is up there with the other 2 above. A defining moment . ( i bloody well hope so anyway ) 23

( i bloody well hope so anyway ) We really got lucky when these guys bought us. We were in so much trouble at the time we could easily have ended up with another chancer like Xia. To not only get multi billionaires but to get wealthy guys with the type of ambition and business acumen to actually make it count where and when it matters is like winning the lottery and putting it all on an outsider in the 3.30 at Haydock and winning. When you watch the England display last night, with a totally clueless manager who has been clueless for at least the last 12 months, employed by a pathetic organisation like the FA. Then you compare the effect of replacing a poor manager with an elite manager, as NSWE did. The benefits of being run by intelligent owners becomes extremely apparent. 8

Popular Post dufresne1947
Probably shouldn’t be restarting this debate, but after watching Pochettino working as a pundit on the bbc, I’d say Emery’s command of the English language is far superior. Also I expect it to improve even further over the next (hopefully) 5+ years.
Popular Post burchy
Love the new training video and Unai’s coaches shouting ‘one, two’ all the time and ‘switch play’ drills. I genuinely think we’ve landed an amazing manager and I haven’t been this optimistic as a Villa fan ever I don’t think. Bring on the return of real football. I also think the club shop need to get on the Unai clipboard bandwagon, they could sell thousands.

Looked like a few when they were walking out but not faces I could put a name to....
Popular Post TheMelvillan
I'm at the point now that whatever decision Unai makes, about anything Aston Villa, I just assume it is the correct one! it is so alien to anything I have ever experienced with this club and my life is markedly less stressful as a result!

Its as if he might be drilling things into our players until they become second nature. And then speeding them up. Muscle memory kind of thing. Remember the intensity of the gerrard sessions. All 100 miles an hour. This is different ( but might just be first day back light load )
