Pathetic may be a bit strong but do you not agree that it's really frustrating when we keep playing well against them but taking nothing? Try not to get overly defensive in your reply this time.

Surely there's some positives to that in that maybe we aren't too far away from some of them, maybe we can start nicking points off these teams next year

Having our attacking options against our defensive options in training isn't helping us in games at all. And vice versa. I mean, our defenders want to and have a good system to stop the opposition scoring, and our striking options know how to score against rugged defences. We either defensively panic or in good attacking positions panic. How many times this season have watkins, Inga or whoever had three defenders around them and just tried a shot rather than looking to see of someone else is in space? And Watkins's lack of lifting the ball over the keeper or putting height in his strikes!?

Definitely frustrating.  But there have been more than a few matches against the top teams when poor decisions by either the officials, VAR or our players have made the difference.  Which is less frustrating than watching us try to hold one to a 0-0 for 90 minutes and getting battered anyway.  Feeling frustrated that we didn't get the draw we probably deserved against Liverpool is not an awful place to be.

Unlucky really, definitely a more encouraging performance in defeat than we've had even in some games we haven't lost. Can't complain too much given the ridiculous quality Liverpool have, they make some things look terribly easy that are anything but, from Mane's finish to general play.

Agreed. Their second goal was just purely them outclassing us

Feels like it's a mental block for us at times.

If you didn't see positives tonight then you're in for a disappointing few years.

I’d suggest such people should support Liverpool

For me you learn more about your team when you play the better teams, Buendia, CC, and Countinho are good enough, Maybe Mcginn, Marvellous and Luiz not.

Watkins has no touch, and Ings has no legs,

Digne and Cash played well, Konsa and Mings are ok, Thats where we are,

Ramsey is good enough, as TimI might be as well

We used to be roll-overs in these games but over the last year or so, we're consistently pushing the top, top tier sides and making them earn it.

The opposition generally know they've been in a game regardless of the score-line.

I'm happy to see most people commenting can see that rather than just kicking off because we've lost.

It's frustrating but that's what happens against top sides. Ings could have had a hat-trick. Should have. Mane takes his chance beautifully because he's a world class player.

We didnt, that's why we lost. We have only ourselves to blame.

Felt very little towards this game pre-match but I thought we made this a very entertaining game. We looked dangerous in attack and competent at the back.

Marv's reading and application of the defensive side of the game is so good but he's gotta give it to a Villa shirt.

Coutinho still does things that you wanna see and is an exciting player, no doubt. I'm still holding out that we can get him and Buendia playing together though.  EB is absolutely class.

Watkins was excellent and put a real shift in.

Actually very disappointed Villa didn’t get something out of that. Very good performance but two bad mistakes by Mings and Luiz cost Villa the game.

Villa also need to be more clinical in front of goal. If Villa had plop’s strikers then they would have had 3 points tonight.

Very impressed with both Cash and Digne. Unfortunately Villa’s CBs are not of the same quality and that also needs to be addressed in the summer.

Agree with other poster that Marvellous going off probably cost Villa too.

Overall a very good performance but yet another loss to a top six team.

However, Villa will be better next season.
