No complaints we played well. Pity we conceded straight after scoring and Ings couldnt have taken one of those two chances.  I do think Gerrard made a blunder though not strarting with Buendia. Looked very infleuntial when he came on.

Mings and Konsa need to be upgraded. There’s no doubt now.
Carney is such a baller I just love the way he plays.

Virgil might be the best defender I’ve ever seen. He’s absolutely imperious. Without him we win that. Imagine him in there instead of Mings.

Good game mostly, a few moments we diced with death (Marv twice), 2 goals which were avoidable (again), and we had a couple of moments where a better first touch could have ended up with a goal, but these are the small margins we work within.

The ref was a huge bad point on an otherwise manageable game, he let advantages go when there was no advantage taken, he gave most 50/50s to Liverpool, provided they weren't in any risk areas and got in the way of passing lanes 3 times, can't wait for him to retire so we can get someone with basic competency in the league (I hope).

Motm is difficult, defo Luiz for the first 65 mins, then Carney came on for some reason and Luiz went CDM and we conceded from our throw in..

I'll stick with him as it's his birthday.

Chuk giving that ball away lead to the goal, and it pushed Luiz back into DM, where he's clearly not particularly good.

Chuk for McGinn: Good

Tim for Nakamba: Good

Chuk for Nakamaba....eh?

If Marv could hold and pass the ball he’d save us a lot of money, breaking up play he was brilliant.
Carney sub was the wrong move.
Digne had a very good game.
Buendia should have started and coutinho given the last 30.
We still look shakey in defence but that was a good performance.

Think one is enough. Mings has been good, Konsa less so.

Mings hasn't been good at all. He can't head a ball more than 5yds. As for his distribution, absolute wack.

We need centre - halves who don't panic when the ball is at their feet.

Can't fault the effort there. Played well for a rotated squad.

Shocking refereeing. Worse than last week.

Only other positive (aside from the performance) from this is it keeps alive the hope of Citeh not winning the league.

It's more of a quality and consistency thing for me. He was awful

I agree he was awful but if we had taken our chances or not f*ked up that throw in that led to their second goal, result might have been different.

But how many times have we played well against the top sides, and taken nothing?

The answer is in your question. They are the top sides. We are midtable. The word pathetic is not relevant.
