Gerrard wants proven winners and that means looking at players from the top teams in Europe. It seems a strategy of the club to try and take advantage of the financial situation at some of these clubs. Does that mean we can go and sign their best players in our situation. Of course not, they would still be hugely expensive and reluctant to join us no matter how much potential we think we have. So players will come with a wrinkle as you say. Will be interesting to see how he adds to the side. A lot of competition now for those midfield spots. Think people are disappointed primarily because they thought we were in for Bissouma. Maybe we were, maybe the deal was too much or he’s holding out for a top 4 move in the summer. Either way this guy clearly has ability and a track record at the top level to go with it. Agreed. Not long ago we had mid-field players like Bjarnason, Whelan and Lansbury in our squad not forgetting McCormack and Hogan up front! He was amazing for Juventus under Sarri who incidentally played a more fluid version of Gerrard's narrow double 10 system. If we sign him, we add significant experience and a further winner to our squad as some have said already.
