I like the way the club acting swiftly in changing managers, very professional. Really excited to see the new Villa and it is great that he is bringing in his own backroom. Can't wait for Brighton Whilst I don't share this level of enthusiasm I'm being positive about it It could have been much worse
Mister_a
I'm not really sure that a 10 year contract and 75 million in compensation is such a good deal for a 22 year old

The most positive thing I'll say is that the owners had identified their man and got it done all very swiftly. He's the manager. Supporting the club becomes a little less joyful and I become a little more detached from football generally, but there we go. For all our sakes let's hope it goes well. He's scouse mate, not a murderer. Sky love him and so we might just get a bit more fairer treatment from them going forward, who knows?

QldVilla Posted November 11, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted November 11, 2021 (edited) Welcome to our new manager, he plays a similar style of football to our previous one, so hopefully it will be a seamless transition. He may just bring that competitive edge that he had himself as a player and can only be a good thing for the club. UTV. Agreed. He wouldn’t have been my choice but given that Gerrard turned down Newcastle, CP has obviously done well to get his man. I do hope fans now get behind him, it’s a small sample size but already some of the posts in this thread are pretty embarrassing.
Vive_La_Villa
It’s good move commercially and more importantly on the pitch with his very talented coach working with out players. I have a good feeling about this.

John
Fergie in May on the new Villa boss: "Oh, he's done magnificent," Ferguson told The Guardian. "He really has, both on and off the field". Nice to see Steve sees us as a step up from Glasgow Rangers, despite what the likes of Danny Murphy may have thought. Best of luck for the future at our great club, you are following a head coach that is one of our own, all we ask is that as Fergie put it, you be magnificent with us! This could be the start of something big.... 1

It would have been easy for him to have stayed in Scotland - won the league again and get CL. Popular Post BOF Posted November 11, 2021 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted November 11, 2021 Welcome to the club. I've been throwing this one around in my mind for the last few days and I really can't see many if any negatives to this at all. One negative I've heard is that if he's a success then he's off to Liverpool. But if that's the case then Aston Villa have been a success too, and we hire from a position of strength. Whether he will be a success or not is obviously far from a guarantee, but I don't see it is a particularly risky choice either. He knows the league like the back of his hand. The quailty and speed and pressure will not be a shock to him. So he'll know from day one what will and won't work. He won't need any acclimatisation period. Other than to get to know the players and implement whatever system he wants to play. But that's the same with any manager, experienced or otherwise. Of the positives. He's a winner (Premier League jokes aside). His standards are very high. The difference between him and smoeone like Lampard is that he has continued to win in management. I like the cut of his managerial jib from what I've seen so far. How he carries himself and interviews. He's also the profile of player that current squad players will immediately respect. He's a profile that new players will want to sign for. Although achievements in Scotland can be difficult to put into perspective, the absolute least is that you succeed in Scotland, and he did that in spades. He didn't just win the SPL title. He went undefeated. And he turned a 12pt deficit into a 25pt advantage over Celtic in 3 seasons. He has shown he can manage successfully, and has the temperament required, that some of his peers lacked going into management. I think he'll give Villa a bit of nasty on the pitch. A bit of bite. We certainly won't be naïve or 'too nice' which we've often accused ourselves of being. I'm enthusiastic about this appointment. I didn't want us to lose Smith as quickly as we did, but now that we have, I think this is a very canny appointment. I think we may be hiring again in 2.5 or 3.5 years but then we'd probably be doing that anyway. I think we'll be doing it for positive reasons and not the negative one. 22

See, I can understand the low expectations, and maybe even some of the dislike for him given his diving antics against us in the past... but what if he does well? Still want him gone if he gets us top half this season and Europe next?
