Lets face it he's only got the job because his best buddy is CEO.

When he turns out to be a colossal failure and gets laughed out of the club at the cost of us being relegated he can take Purslow with him.

Were any other candidates even interviewed or shortlisted?

Such short sightedness from the club this will only end in disaster.

That’s the spirit

IF he turns out to be a failure i suspect purslow will follow. he seems to be the sole candidate and i dare say deano was sacked knowing gerrard was a viable option. those are decisions that purslow is paid handsomely to make.

now if you care to DM me the lottery numbers considering your psychic knowledge that would be appreciated

By your profile you live in that Scouse land ? ,  is so any reaction to his appointment up there as yet?

They’re more worried about their precious Stevie not making the grade and not getting the Liverpool job.

Most of the lads I know want to succeed but can’t see why we’ve swapped him for Smith.

Think this appointment needs to be seen in context. The board have made a clear statement of ambition here. They are not prepared to bumble around in mid table, which was probably the best they could hope for with Smith, although the reality was worse, just over 1 point per match in 2021 calendar year.

They have appointed Gerrard believing he can fulfil that ambition. Can’t see why any Villa fan would want them or him to fail.

I’m looking forward to the next few months and years to see where this takes the club, so welcome Steve and coaching team, please live up to the ambition!

(And do try to ignore all those desperately tedious scouser gifs.)

I agree with the second paragraph onwards.

The bit in bold though I don’t agree with, this isn’t a clear statement of ambition at all, it’s an underwhelming statement and has certainly hit my confidence in what I believed the owners/Purslow had given the impression was their ambition.

As I said though, I’m onboard and backing him 100% now he’s appointed but I’m not forgetting the context in the larger picture of this and accept now our ambitions aren’t what I thought they were and that’s ok, I know how to set my expectations now.

Was the Bruce thread so toxic so quickly? It’s honestly startling reading some of these reactions

People gave Bruce a chance for a season and a half as he was a promotion specialist. Everybody seemed on board at the time except myself 😂

I'm optimistic, Dean was just a romance, his results over last 12 months, lack of style of play, lack of in-game management ability was always going to be exposed and unlike many, I saw he had come to the end of his abilities. The timing has been perfect, he has done his job, now we move on.

Gerrard will command respect in the dressing room and that is task number 1, as without it the rest of what needs to be implemented won't be possible.

He hasn't failed at Rangers, so there's no legacy to moan about (even though many still will) and he knows taking this job on will decide how the rest of his managerial career will pan out, so I applaud him for his confidence.

He will be backed, I think players will be higher calibre than Dean was capable of and he clearly has a system he likes to use, which I'm praying actually consists of utilising space in the middle of the park, not just getting it to the wing as fast as possible or hoofball.

I like the air of mysticism around this appointment. Many of our past managers we have all known wouldn't work, with SG, no-one can say what is to come, he has only been successful so far.

Can't wait to see what he can do!! UTV
