I think it's a risk going into next season with Davis and Wesley as backup for Watkins. Neither of them for various reasons can be fully trusted to be the main striker in the event of Watkins being seriously injured. Question is can we fund a replacement to the level of Watkins again.

You worry too much PF, a couple of hundred million quid’s worth added to the squad should help you relax. 🤑

Benteke on a free, sell Davis.  Then we can spend our money elsewhere.

Paying the bollix 100k a week would soak up any fee for Davis.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

You still rate Benteke? Seems alot on here don't.

I , too, was against any return in the past.

However, he has shown some very decent form recently and has good pedigree.

On a free, as a bench option I think we could do MUCH worse.

Don't see the board doing it either though.

I think we go for a good quality wide forward. Someone who can comfortably play on the wing or as a central striker. Kills two birds with one stone then.

The problem with Benteke on a free would be the massive signing on fee, agents fee and no doubt ridiculous wages. It would be far from a free transfer. Would he be worth that? Could we get better value elsewhere?

Best option, plus we need more of a mobile forward rather than a more stationary or basic finisher…

Could we get better value elsewhere? ABSOLUTELY

McGinn literally bullied Spurs and Chelsea players off the ball in the final 3rd last 2 games to create goal scoring opportunities. You don't see that often from any player in the PL

He also waved a leg in the vague direction of the Spurs attacker who scored their opening goal when he should have clattered him and given away a free-kick.  He lets players lay off the ball too easily and run straight past him, leaving our defenders (or his midfield partner) having to cover an extra man.  He's a decent player and a good squad man for sure - it would be brilliant to bring him on for the last 20 - 30 minutes.  But I can't see him getting close to being picked as a starter for any of the other teams expecting / planning for a top half of the table finish.  He's been awesome for us and a big part of our success over the last few seasons.  I don't want him to go but if we are to progress we need to be able to dominate the centre of the park.  If we bring in a midfield general then personally I would prefer that Luiz started alongside that player with a bit more creative freedom than he had this year.  But I know that opinion is divided on this.  Either way a Luiz / McGinn partnership is not strong enough.

Agreed. To be honest, I loved Benteke for us. He was a beast but I don't get the nostalgic feeling I get when I think of Milner, for example. I have no nostalgia for the Lambert era at all. Despite his improved form recently (probably due to him trying to get a new contract now his is nearly up), I think he's a shadow of the beast he was for us. Shame. At the time I rated him higher than his Belgian strike partner Lukaku but look how they've both developed since.

A few weeks ago someone posted the link to a great podcast by an academic football finance specialist. He explained the nuts and bolts of what Villa could theoretically spend last summer if we wanted to. Main takeaways were: i) a lot, lot more than people expected, ii) FFP is basically the Swiss cheese of financial regulation, to be manipulated and ignored as required.

So long as the accountants can show it through the books, the club can claim to have lost whatever it wants as a result of the pandemic. This can then be used to defend transfer spending.

The world isn’t short of creative accountants for those with the resources.

I think FFP is also a bit of a speciality of Purslow.  I'm sure that he's identified more than a couple clever loopholes in the past and now that several restrictions have been lifted for us (with the 3 year thing) I suspect he has a cunning plan or two up his sleeves.

To be fair to @MotoMkali i think he is shit scared of us losing Jack and wants us to keep him at all costs.

With his reasoning being, that this is the only way to do so.

Obviously as should every villa fan. He is our ticket to the top. He is the only way we can continue to make big name signing and even think about competing with the scum 6 in the transfer market.

One thing I think we need more than anything is more pace across the team..we statistically have the slowest team in the league last season.

And it showed on the pitch.
