I look at McGinn, Luiz, Nakamba and even Sanson and I see good players but they all look small and weak compared to the kind of midfields the “top” sides have, I see them quite often brushed off the ball. I would prefer it if we weren’t so outmuscled and overpowered so often and we REALLY NEED TO KEEP A HOLD OF THAT BALL!!! 🤣

McGinn literally bullied Spurs and Chelsea players off the ball in the final 3rd last 2 games to create goal scoring opportunities. You don't see that often from any player in the PL

It's just negging Nakamba. Smith would have a laugh reading this forum. These players doing a job for us should just be thrown in the bin according to some on here. Embarrassing

No one has said that, every player we have now (after we’ve released those out of contract) has something to offer. It’s a squad game after all but you have to improve and it helps to have extra options if you really want to compete at the top end of that table..

It’s fine to praise Nakamba but why has he played so few games for us over the course of the season? If Smith rated him so highly he would have had more time. He prefers Luiz because he is better on the ball and passes it well…

We need to stop surrendering possession so much and having to defend or sit back for long periods…

I like Nakamba; he is fantastic out of possession pressuring and winning the ball back, but you can't say he looks after the ball well when in possession. Those errors in possession that lead to chances for the opposition like the recent spurs game are too frequent and I would like to see us pick up a DM who is better in possession. These are the kinds upgrades we need to make if we want to have more and better possession in games against top teams.

McGinn and Nakamba also got brushed off the ball against Spurs and Bergwijn smashed in his goal.

You can’t just take individual games to back up a theory, you need to take the whole season into account.

Again, it’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. As am I to mine.

In fairness to McGinn, he knows how to use his body, I don't necessarily worry about him when it comes to strength. Nakamba in his most recent displays as well.

Agree overall though, been beating the drum for ages.

None of them are bad players, I just think we could do with an extra option.

I’ve seen us struggle against the bigger teams and the stronger more physical players - they don’t seem to have much trouble against us.

When McGinn is fully fit and on form he’s always an asset and will battle to the end but he can’t do it alone. We can’t compete in the air either and we struggle to hold on to the ball. When the MF is put under any kind of pressure, we get nervous and hurriedly release the ball and surrender possession. It’s massively frustrating.

We need the option that Barkley offered when he first arrived that gave us 2 creative driving outlets and simultaneously allowed us not to rely on Jack and gave him more creative freedom to mix things up.

Absolutely this.

I agree with the people saying we need a new DCM. Nakamba is very good at breaking up the play and getting stuck in but not good with the ball. Ideally I'd like someone who is better on the ball to play in there. But I'm also happy with Nakamba being a squad player.

Yup, we need bigger units in the squad, as options, in general, different team offer different threats.

When we are being bullied, we need to be able to bring on a powerhouse to retake control.

Or start them to bully certain opposition.

In certain games, our regulars are fine/.

This. Nakamba should not be a regular starter.

Agreed. And given Smiths post match interview after the Chelsea game and CP’s recent interview, I think the club feel the same.

Be it Buendia or someone else, I’m absolutely certain the club are looking to bring in a number 10

Key signing for me this window.

That was not enough for Werder, but times have now changed, and according to Kicker’s information, it is possible that there is a €15m release clause in his contract following relegation.

After previous €30m bid, Aston Villa target now available for €15m - Deal 'expected' before pre-season - Sport Witness

Aston Villa: Dean Smith could sign a new Idrissa Gueye in Metz’s Pape Sarr

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Dean Smith’s side are interested in signing the 18-year-old this summer, and it now appears that his current club are willing to let him go for the right price.

I've seen this story a few times over the past week or so as well, don't think i've seen it posted here though.

We must be one of the worst for scoring from corners & set pieces… another string we could add to our bow…

We need that specialist set piece taker because I’m starting to wonder whether it’s the delivery rather than the finishing that is more the problem. We seem to manage aerially in defence but we barely carry any threat at the other end. Mings should score more and we have one to two others who should be more threatening too.

Back to strength in midfield, I would love us to just face up to teams and have the ability to dominate or battle for dominance rather than sit back and defend and look to counter… if we could battle and harass the likes of Pogba, Ndidi, Soucek, Rodri etc. it would be so good…

It doesn’t have to be a DM but, as I’ve said before, we could kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I keep bringing up Milinkovic-Savic as a dream signing (not a DM) or someone of that mould (Carney could develop into that kind of player), someone tall, strong, physical but with so much quality on the ball and even attacking prowess.

I’m not asking for a tall brute but someone strong and dominant who can help retain the ball, control possession  and pass the ball with quality. We need quality more than anything but it would be great if that was combined with some of the more overlooked aspects…
