From Wednesday then we can start travelling to take exercise, sunbathe, sit on a bench etc. Imagine what coastal towns are going to be like next time we get a nice weekend. It will be carnage as thousands will descend on these places with no chance of staying 2m apart. This is not going to go well is it.

We are Guinea Pigs, Sir.

This is a **** shambles. Where is the contact tracing and the mass testing? Any relaxing of the rules without a way of identifying and isolating the infected is a death sentence for so very many people.

Getting people back to work, allowing more freedom like time in parks, beaches and playing sports but also expecting the R rate to go down is like spending money and expecting your bank balance to go up.

There is now a gap between hearing from the prime minister tonight, and getting hold of the 50-ish page document regarding England's lockdown tomorrow.

So, here's what we've gleaned from a government official.

  • Most secondary school pupils in England won't be back in a classroom until September. It is hoped those with exams next year might get to head back before the summer holidays, but there are no specifics on the timing of that
  • Nurseries and primary schools won't re-open until the beginning of next month at the earliest. As and when they do, those in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 will head back first
  • From Wednesday, in England, there will be no limit on the exercise you go outside to do. You can sit in the park and read. You can sunbathe...
  • You can meet one person from outside your own household if you stay two metres apart
  • So, you can sit next to a single friend in the park, but you must socially distance
  • And, you can drive to parks and beaches in England but you must socially distance when you get there

For those who are shielding, there is no change in the advice.

I know right. ****ing ICU nurses eh?! Trying to be all clever with their words on social media.

One question though, who is 'we' ?

The comment was aimed at people blatantly not following guidelines and people using 'confusion' over them as an excuse to carry on doing whatever they like.

Not ****ing ICU nurses

Hoping the water keeps most away from here. This weekend we definitely had more already. My friend works on the ferries, said one family came in a camper van for a funeral.

Aren't some of these supposed relaxations things that are technically already allowed (or you could argue are) under the actual regulations?

Seen quite a lot been made online about how from wednesday you will now be able to meet one person from outside your household if you stay 2 metres apart, e.g. go to a park with a single friend but stay 2 metres apart.

Current provision 7 says you can't participate in a gathering in a public place of 2 or more people (with certain exceptions). Provision 6 just says you can't leave where you are living without a reasonable excuse, then provides a non exhaustive list of reasonable excuses.

So technically you could already walk around a park with a friend? Exercise is a reasonable excuse to be out of your house, and if its just the two of you is not breaching provision 7. Same with the 'unlimited exercise' announcement. There's technically no restriction on number of times per day at the moment.

So the so called easing is a bit of an illusion, its just moving the guidelines more inline with the actual law (unless they change the regulations this week as well).

The meeting a non-household member outdoors with social distancing is the bombshell for me. No way the major of people will deal with that sensibly.

He did say increased fines though for those who don’t adhere to it. I do think it sends mixed messages particularly with the urging of certain groups of people to go back to work but stay away from public transport.

nursing sister in Swansea compared her shift on Friday night, following the VE Day celebrations, to New Year's Eve due to the number of head injuries and drunk patients.

Corrina Newman said in a social media post that front-line staff had been "stabbed in the back" and that their hard work "was a total waste of time".

Swansea Bay health board said in response they had not seen a rise in admissions to Morriston Hospital.

Responding to the Prime Minister's address to the nation about easing lockdown, Richard Burge, Chief Executive of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said:

Quote

“Having heard the Prime Minister this evening, my strong and unequivocal advice to London businesses is not to change your plans for tomorrow. You have not been given sufficient information on how to get your employees safely to work, nor how to keep them safe while they are there.

"We hope that the statement in Parliament and the promised guidance documents will enable business to prepare.  At the moment, it would be foolish for any business leader to encourage staff not already undertaking essential work to do anything but to continue to work from home tomorrow if they can do so.”

I've heard James Forsyth from the Spectator reference it a few times, but given the circumstances I'm surprised more people haven't gone to town with these old quotes...

Quote

...the London Mayor told journalists at the Press Gallery lunch today that his political hero is Mayor Larry Vaughn, who prevents Chief Martin Brody from closing the beach after the initial shark attack.

"He kept the beaches open," Mr Johnson explained.

"I don't know what happened to his political career thereafter, but he did the right thing."

The character of Mayor Vaughn acts as a symbol for irresponsible state behaviour in the Jaws film, putting holiday-makers' lives at risk in order to maintain tourism.

Its a ducking farce, 20.minutes of bollox that basically says go back to work if you cant work from home if its to.make profits for business, if its for leisure or.pleasure then forget it , stay home.

Had an email from JLR, any workers on cars lines that dont have orders for the cars  are to stay at home until the government stops paying our wages.........

These clowns in charge are going to damage the UK beyond repair.

Entice more people to break the rules (that aren't very clear) and fine them bigger - we need the money for the furloughed!
