A lot of the better England U17 players were either not used or not involved today, including our own Aaron Ramsey, who's been captaining them recently. Don't think Barry being on the bench is any indication as to how highly he's rated, might just be down the fact that he won't have played much football recently.

He may just be the next big thing along with a few others.

I am still shocked a kid this good chose us over so many clubs that are at the moment in better spots in there league than us, shocked I am but glad.

It seems in his England match this lad not only made a big impact but made a difference, one question though, why did they not start with him. Either way it sounds as though Barry was explosive against Russia and clearly in done them to bits.

I so want to see him get some minutes in the first team and we shouldn't deny him that opportunity as he could set an example to other youths that there is a way into the first eleven where st the moment it a very dim pathway.

Maybe move him on up to the under 23s, see how he does and go from there.

I’m pretty sure he will be playing U23’s as soon as he’s back from England duty. He played and scored for us in an U23 friendly as soon as he joined.

He'll be playing for the U23s, both Sebastian Revan and Aaron Ramsey, younger brothers of Dominic and Jacob, have played for the U23s recently and both only turned 17 in late January, Kaine Kesler is still sixteen and he's already played for U23s. Will be interesting to see how he gets on when he does start playing, and the other youngsters who've been promoted to U23 level from the U18s.

Imagine if he lives up to the hype! Straight into u23s when he gets back, maybe a first team debut sometime this season the strikers pecking order come next seaon could be!

1. Barry

2. Samagoal

3. Davis

4. Wesley

Who was the last 17 year old to be a 1st choice premier league striker?

Cant see it.

Why would he automatically jump ahead of everyone? This is a 16 yr old kid. England won the u17 World Cup a few ago, the top scorer was Rhian Brewster, someone who has barely played league football now, and has been sent on loan to the championship, that’s 3 years later. Give the kid chance to develop

Why wouldnt he jump ahead if he's good enough? Not saying he is, but if he is really as good as the hype why not. Were Rooney and Owen held back to develop? All hyperthetical players develop at different rates.

Owen, Lukaku, Rooney, Defoe, Milner...

It's rare but it happens. But yes, it's vital we don't expect too much too soon and give him the time he needs. Just as vital is not holding him back because of some meaningless notion of being too young.

We aren't blessed with a multitude of talented strikers at the moment either. That could be fortuitous in so much as we may have to play him earlier and reap the rewards if it works out.

wait and see where we end up, if we are safe by the time we play west ham then chuck him on (as well as some others) and lets have a look and give the kid a huge shot in the arm

at the same time if we are going down then don't drag him in to it, let him sit in the U23s and have all the shit above him, then take a look pre season

the main thing is that if the worst happens and we do go down then some of these kids have to get a chance next season, its where we majorly **** up last time, looking back at it we used green (44 apps) davis (43) Ramsey (1) Suliman (1) clark (1) lyden (2) doyle hayes (2) RHM (8) blacket taylor (2) in 3 years, that's not good enough

I would hope this kid played more games in the championship next season than RHM managed in 3 years

Because the hype isn't suggesting he is the next rooney or owen.

He's highly rated for his age group, players like owen and rooney were highly rated at 16 compared to first team players.

He's an exciting prospect but think we need to calm down a bit.

At 16 Rooney was scoring premier league goals. Barry is playing at u17 national level.

rooney at 16 is a rare example and therefore an unfair comparison to make with youngsters (not just barry) he was built like a man at that age, he had a stocky muscular frame, no filling out required with then the footballing skills to back it up, its rare that you find the combination of the 2
