But I meant the Boo's.....No they didn't turn on Dean directly and I sincerely hope they don't....it was a figure of speech. We need a win and a performance against Norwich. My pleasure. Agreed, massive game.
KenjiOgiwara
I suspect it will get worse before it gets better. Slumps tend to last a bit longer than this. Unfortunate as it is, cause a loss against Norwich and a few posters on here will need a new round of zoloft.
Laughable Chimp
Yeah, I'd be putting money on Norwich to win the match if I didn't have a policy of never putting bets againist Villa.(Don't like the conflict of interest) Don't think we're gonna bounce back so soon. Deeney an absolute cert to score as well. Twice in stoppage time last game if I recall correctly.

We sure like to exaggerate the drama. He's too soft apparently, where is the evidence for that? Why didn't he give Mings and AG a rollicking for their shenanigans, maybe he did, but what would be the purpose of broadcasting the fact. I like that he keeps a cool head, too much emotion often leads to careless decisions. As long as he is at the helm he has my full support and I'm fully confident he wii turn this thing around. All those who didn't want Smith in the first place, shame on you for relishing in his woes. 2

All those who didn't want Smith in the first place, shame on you for relishing in his woes. I think some people can't handle the fact that they don't really know what goes on inside a football club, so they just make stuff up to satisfy their imaginations. We get this little window of 90 mins every week - admittedly it's the most important 90 mins - but we have no idea what's happened in the days leading up to that, what the coaches, doctors, physios, analysts and players have said, how the training sessions have gone, what the gameplan is. You get a few clues in the press conferences, but the best managers usually play their cards close to their chests. We obviously have a right as paying fans to criticise the coach, but most of the stuff he gets criticised for is probably beyond his control. The Wesley situation is frustrating, but what is Dean supposed to do? It's not like we have a world class striker sitting on the bench. Fans pick up on stuff like Smith's adherence to 4-3-3, because it's one of the things we can clearly see every week. What we don't know is what kind of relationship he has with his colleagues, how well he plans training sessions, how well he briefs his players, how well he runs a match debrief, how he motivates individuals on a personal level, how he works on long-term player development. We don't know whether Purslow has told him to protect the transfer value of certain players so we're in good shape for FFP. Given the age of the squad, it's hard to say how many of our players are underperforming because of Smith and how many are overperforming. We don't know how good they'd be with a different manager. It could be that our squad is just shit. Or it could be that our squad hasn't gelled yet. Or it could be that Smith is making massive mistakes every week. These are all unknowns, and we can speculate on here, but it really is just guesswork. My sense (but it's only a guess) is that our players like and respect him. He has transformed Tyrone Mings into an England starter in the space of a few months, and he gets a tune out of Jack Grealish in the Premier League that cabbage man never managed in the Championship. The club hierarchy have a better view of what is going on behind the scenes, so we have to have some faith in their decision making when they decided to award him a contract extension. Clearly they think he's doing a good job in the circumstances. I don't think Purslow is the sentimental type, so he must have good reasons for backing Smith. We just have to go along with it for now and hope he's made the right call.

Popular Post Robtaylor200
Merry Christmas every one. We all support the same team, but have different ideas of what is wrong at the moment and how to put it right. Good job we are not in charge together we would never be able to sort it out . This year can we please accept that we have different points of view and be more respectful to each other when quoting and replying.

I think some of us forget that for the younger ones amongst us Dean Smith made a massive contribution to giving them their greatest day as a Villa fan. Even for those of us of an older vintage that 10 game winning run and then getting us promoted at Wembley is as good, if not better, than anything we have achieved in 30+ years. Hopefully he can lead us to more joy in 2020. Edited December 25, 2019 by markavfc40

Missed out on Rotterdam as I was unemployed - was busy with kids 94/96 league cups - have my dad ticket for Liverpool semi - so he could see villa at Wembley ! Was as Highbury in 81 - but as a mindless lout I was a bit pissed ! All worth it for last may !!!! For that reason I will give DS a massive benefit of doubt.
