sidcow Posted August 5, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted August 5, 2017 He just looks very unlucky to me. The ball never quite falls right for him. Defenders make great blocks, the ball goes just wide. Reminds me a bit of Dean Saunders who I always describe as the unluckiest striker I ever saw play for us. I genuinely mean that as he ALMOST scored 50 goals a season for us. Never seen another striker come so close to scoring but not actually score than Saunders. Lots of good movement and runs and close on a couple of occasions to getting a goal. I was disappointed to see him subbed. I'm back to thinking he'll come good. I couldn't tell if he got a flick on the cross for Gabbys goal, or it just turned out to be a good dummy, but he did get a lovely flick later on where if Gabby commits to the shot he probably gets a second. I think it was him that also set up Lansbury who should have done better from the edge of the box. 2nd half he was pretty anonymous, although its hard not to be when the ball is being punted up to you while the rest of the team stays 30 yards further back. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The rest of the time he was back to his usual ineffective self. His hold up play and touch is not good enough and his passing is average. He has to be able to do these things, every ball forward can't be over the top or threaded through otherwise we will never keep the ball and build any attack. The more I see him the more I think we've signed a dud and the idea that Bruce had scouted him for a long time is utter rubbish. I don't know why Villa fans have developed this "player is shit" attitude and don't give them a chance. It is very frustrating.
