Smith mentioned how Hourihane didn't need to dive in for that second goal but, after passing Hourihane, Rodriguez still had a defender and keeper to beat. The defender (Elphick) turned his back on the shot - criminal - which resulted in the ball deflecting past the keeper who seemed to go down too slowly although, he did later get subbed because of injury so maybe that hindered him?

I wasn't at the game so can't comment on his overall performance but I wouldn't blame him for that second goal.

You let down.....would have had 40,000 if you had of turned up.

I despair for certain sections of our fan base at times. I understand that every club has them and you can't help it, but this season alone has reflected so poorly on us. Cabbage Gate was embarrassing, today with Hourihane was ridiculous, and even comparatively minor stuff I've found myself cringing at like the needlessly personal and insulting replies to Villa putting a tweet up wishing Neil Taylor a happy birthday the other week has contributed to this borderline if not already toxic atmosphere. Sometimes we don't help ourselves.

  • Firstly the reserves is the place to get your form back or the training ground and he is a limited player, who is good a somethings and poor at others....in short he is a lightweight, today he was a liability.
  • Gareth Barry give us 12 good years, where it was debatable that we aspired to building a team around him....we simply allowed him to stagnate, so he left to fulfill his aspirations, elsewhere,he couldn't fulfill with us....He recently joined Albion, where he wanted to come back to us, but we wouldn't pay his wages....yet we can pay other wasters that don't play for us like Richards and MCCormack.

I'm glad we found it in us ,to applaud him.

I haven't got a massive issue with barry getting a cheer. However I have got an issue with him getting clapped off after we have already booed/mocked our own player, who is going through a poor run of form.

That's **** up and we look like idiots.

He's a bit lost.

The problem for him is that he's the only person who can do anything about that - it's not a question of an arm around the shoulder from the Holte End, it's a question of the size of your nuts Conor - salvation will not come from without, it's a matter of the strength of his will.

Fortunately for him, Jack Grealish who has testicles the size of space hoppers is coming back. All it takes is controlling the ball, and turning to face forwards. Jack does it almost every time he gets the ball, Conor bottles it, he's easily good enough.

I’m wondering whether it’s been decided he’s going, but rather than languish on the bench or miss out on the match day squad, he’s playing regular football because, well for one there is no one else.

But all also because if he’s not playing his value isn’t likely to increase. Ok he’s been poor, but I bet we could still find a buyer for him and pocket a few quid for him. Let’s face it, we haven’t exactly got too many players whom we could feasibly make much money on.

If you want to sell conner houihane the best solution would be keep him away from the pitch and just show email his goals and assists stats to agents...maybe a little youtube montage of his set pieces.

you could put the song fat bottomed girls by queen as the sound track.

some mugs like celtic would take him.

Dean picks him. Don’t blame Conor. He plays the way he has always played. He isn’t going to suddenly become a new player under dean Conor is in the height of his career and largely has done well for us.

It’s awful to boo our own player because he does not suit the new manager. He didn’t have a good match, but we’d been much lower in the table if it weren’t for Conor.

It's starting to get to the Westwood levels with the fans and Conor.  The fans want him to be a different kind of player to what he actually is and get on his back because he has no 'bottle'.  Westwood has gone on to become an important cog in a Premier League midfield, while we are still shit and languishing in a lower division.  Maybe giving Hourihane pelters isn't a particularly constructive thing to do right now as it can hardly help the team during a poor spell.  But I know it isn't going to stop until he is replaced by.....I have no idea who.  It's the Villa way.

Barry deserves a really good ovation for what he did for us and his service, by the same token no player of ours deserves to be booed. Moronic stuff from our fans.

Hourihane is poor, just doesn't affect the game from open play anywhere near enough and seems to actively shy away from the action, needs to be dropped, his place here needs to be considered in the summer as well but he shouldn't be getting booed off the pitch like that.

The problem is that McGinn is out for two games and we will be more dependant on Hourihane.

After being booed off, his confidence is shot to pieces and I cannot see his performances improving any time soon.

He has scored many great goals for us and has made many more assists since he has been with us.

He has not been great over the past few months but the least is he deserves is our support.

We did the same to Westwood who was not even as effective and we forced him out of the club.

Totally agree with this as harsh as it may sound. You need to be mentally tough to play for Aston Villa especially when things aren't going well and I don't think Conor is. Whelan has had worse stick than him for much longer but he never hides and always shows for the ball. Conor spends a lot of his time shirking challenges by always being just too far away to make them and has become too safety first by making sideways and backwards passes. His first movement is backwards when if it was the opposite it would make such a big difference to our game and not slow our play down as much.

He is massively missing Grealish and the free kicks he draws in and around the box where Conor can make an impact with his set pieces.

I don't see much of a future for him here beyond this season.

I have to agree with you there....It was cheap.....and probably a reaction to us losing after he set up JR, Inadvertently.

Our crowd overall is fantastic.....We are amongst the best around IMO....The gates we get, compared to the football we offer is commendable.

However, a crowd is made up of so many opinions and personalities, not to mention intellectual tendency.

The noisy section, reacted badly IMO....and as you quite rightly say, made us look idiots.....However, they got it right with the Referee.

He is not a defensive playmaker is he?

As much as I want to slate him, I've had to take into consideration that he is somewhat being "shoehorned" into the side in a position less than favourable for him.

While I agree that it’s not his most natural position, our best run of the season (November through to mid December) was primarily Hourihane playing that role with Grealish and McGinn ahead of him wasn’t it?

Regardless, I very much doubt it’ll be his role next season.

JV he is not.....But players like workers have to work in other departments sometimes.....You can't say, I can't work in sales, i don't like the phone....they will train you too.

Conor is naturally lightweight, physically and mentally....He has the sweetest of left foots, but its not enough.

I would have thought, while he is playing this role, which is not natural.....He would be doing some specialist work to help him deal with it.

Alex Cropley, Gordon Cowans, Eammon Deacy.....were all only a bag of bones, no heavier than a wet rat.....yet they flew in to tackles....He doesn't look to me like anyone has been doing any work with him on this subject...i could be wrong of course.

At the moment, he looks like he is being hung out to dry.....it could be his own doing or ours as a club.
