Negative. That's a really weird thing to have a problem with. We've seen this kind of thing from loads of players and managers over the years. They're too nervous to watch a penalty. It's meaningless.

For the whole season, Bruce has been castigated for playing Axel (nominally a CB) out of position at RB. You can't then give him grief for playing '4 RBs' when Axel is one of them. I know it doesn't fit the 'Bruce doesn't know what he's doing' narrative', but it's unnecessary. There's more than enough real crap to have a go about. Steve Bruce obviously doesn't agree with you. Tuanzebe has played a dozen times for Villa, and only on a couple of occasions has he started as a centre back. He started as a centre back last night only because Jedinak was injured. Bruce clearly thinks he's a right back. It's not "unnecessary" and I'm not trying "to fit a narrative" I'm stating fact! Bruce had his four right backs as his back line for forty minutes last night. I do not need to try and embellish the "Bruce doesn't know what he's doing narrative". That sadly speaks for itself.

villa89
Looks like he'll be in charge for the Milwall game. How utterly pointless. Sack him now, put in a caretaker and have the new manager in place for the Swansea game.
sidcow Posted October 3, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted October 3, 2018 Oh God, were going to have to put up with a carbon copy performance against Millwall on Saturday aren't we. Albert Einstein is considered a Genius for very good reason. Why will the board not take his advice?
KHV
The main reason Bruce has to go is his transfer policy. No replacements for Terry or Elphick Tuanzebe was utterly pointless as we have RB's. Also I think he is fairly shite at CB too He has signed El Ghazi and Bolasie which used up most of our transfer money available and they start on the bench With Chester suspended we now have no centre backs. Any manager with half a clue knows you need at least 3 if not 4 CB's for a season Signed two goalkeepers who are so shite Mark Bunn is back in goal Also any decent manager would suggest that Glenn Whelan doesn't take a last minute penalty Edited October 3, 2018 by KHV
mikeyjavfc Posted October 3, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted October 3, 2018 (edited) Assuming his sacking is not imminent, I am surprised there is no statement of support from the board. The atmosphere was hostile last night so the board should really look support Bruce publicly, even if the sack is incoming it is the right thing to do for your emplyee. Maybe they are trying to force a resignation? Edited October 3, 2018 by mikeyjavfc
Popular Post sne
It appears someone at the Mail has been holding their finger up to feel how the wind blows and come to a conclusion. Quote Our Aston Villa verdict: It’s time for Steve Bruce to go The time has come for change at Aston Villa By Mat KendrickCLICK TO PLAY Amidst the grocery misconduct, the bare-bummed pitch invader, the red card controversy and the penalty-taker debate, there was one unavoidable truth last night. Steve Bruce and a significant section of the claret and blue faithful just don’t like each other very much any more. The togetherness Brucie had built now seems irreparably damaged to the extent that it is impossible to see any way the manager can survive this. It has become like a loveless marriage. Yes, there are occasions when both parties still make each other smile, or stop to remember happier times, but those are all too fleeting, all too rare. The time has come for Aston Villa and Steve Bruce to put each other out of their misery by parting company. For the club’s sake and the manager’s. It’s two years to the day since Roberto Di Matteo was sacked, coincidentally after Villa were depressed by Preston, and, hand on heart, can even Bruce’s ever-dwindling band of supporters really say Villa are better off than they were on October 3 2016? By five points, yes. But in terms of a plan, an identity, the sense that this club has a leader capable of guiding them back to the big league and beyond? No chance. When a good man like Bruce is labelling his detractors as the ‘mad few’ and refusing to accept criticism it means the end game is near. When a good man like Bruce is having to dash down the tunnel to avoid the hostility from a Villa Park past breaking point, it means the end game is near. When a good man like Bruce is suffering the humiliation of an idiot fan of the club he manages throwing a cabbage at him, it means the end game is near. Bruce and Aston Villa are better than this. This is not the image this football club should be projecting to the new owners, let alone the rest of the worldOUR APP Bruce is a decent bloke, but the promotion pressure that comes with being the claret and blue boss has led to muddled thinking, underperforming and ultimately losing the faith of the Villa Park faithful. Lose the fans and rarely is there any way back. Even floating voters prepared to cut him some slack for the joyless football, don’t take kindly to having their intelligence insulted. Suggestions that his Birmingham City past has ever been held against him are, to use a Bruce phrase, ‘absolute nonsense’. This has nothing to do with where Bruce came from, and everything to do with where he is - or isn’t - taking Villa. There or thereabouts won’t cut it any more. Villa fans need a manager they believe in and who believes in them. As supporters get more and more exasperated during matches and Bruce gets more and more exasperated during press conferences, this situation is doing more harm than good. Granting a stay of execution now would simply be delaying the inevitable. It’s time to go. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-verdict-its-time-15231429

I was previously quoting someone who mentioned Wenger, Fonseca one Zidane as possible candidates so that's where the top manager comment came from. Which are clearly ridiculous names for us to be thinking about given where we are. I just can't see us getting anyone of any note because they will want big money and we just can't spend like that at this stage. Whoever we get, it needs to be soon or else I really think we will finish in the bottom half, which would be a catastrophe given our FFP position. It’s a balance. You’re right in that we have to be realistic about where we are at this moment in time. However I still think we’re an attractive proposition for the right guy with the right motivation. Hopefully the new owners have a vision for the future, not a bloody fairground, and get the right people in to deliver it. Pepe it is then? Well whoever it is needs to be forward thinking, willing to try to win games as opposed to trying not to lose them and know how to get the best out of the attacking talent we have. That's absolutely key, because nobody is going to be able to stop us conceding with the players we have available at the back. AndyM3000
Do we actually have to pay him off? There should be clauses added into contracts if you perform shit you get x% of your remaining contract. None of them quit anymore they all want that payoff.
