AshVilla
It's now time to unite as fans and get behind the new guy whoever that will be. It feels like a cloud has lifted and I'm feeling positive for once, were going up. It's going to be hard work though considering the mess that has been left behind. Mark Albrighton Posted October 3, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted October 3, 2018 Hopefully one day, we’ll be able to look back at Bruce’s tenure as a necessary phase the club had to go through in order to get us back to the top. He did some good, he got some things right, he “steadied the ship” up to a point. No point dwelling on the stuff he got wrong, we all know. He ultimately wasn’t the man to take us where we hopefully will be soon and the decision to let him go is the right move for all concerned.
Popular Post NurembergVillan Posted October 3, 2018 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted October 3, 2018 Looking at it objectively, I'm glad Bruce has gone but I'm thankful for what he did while here. For the most part. Make no bones about it, we were a club in distress when he showed up. We hadn't won away in McGrath knows how long, Villa Park was less of a fortress and more of a bouncy castle, and there was no relationship between the players and the fans. Bruce set about changing that. First making us hard to beat, then winning games, and finally bringing together a team including the likes of Snodgrass, Terry and a rapidly improving Grealish who the fans could adore once more. But in putting these building blocks in place, he gave the fans a glimpse of what could be. We smashed Wolves and Bristol City, teams feared Villa Park once more - we won 7 games in a row. There was always a feeling of inevitability about it all, though. A feeling that this was as good as it would get. For every Wolves performance, there was a QPR. For every Conor Hourihane there would be a Lansbury. Or another right back. And this season, it's been exposed. We've stagnated from last year. And in real terms that means we've gone backward. So, in summary - thanks, Steve. Thanks for the steeliness you showed (until near the end, but you should've already been gone before it got to that), particularly during that challenging period where you lost both of your parents. Thanks for bringing wins back to Villa Park, and to our away games. Thanks for halting the inevitability of us being the next Sunderland. But that's where it ends. You did your best. It was what we needed for a little while, but it was what we had for too long. 16
