a performance that sounds good to hear. seems to have fitted in well and if true was barking orders then just what we need. Id be happy with Chester, Elphick and Baker as our top 3 defender maybe add another on loan in case injuries and suspension

Yes, this looks to be a solid core.

Considering him and elphick can't have trained fully together, they looked to be getting a good understanding together. This football malarkey is simple when you do the basics right.

The understanding being defenders who know how to defend! :P

Agreed. It was difficult to judge his actual performance yesterday, because lets face it, Rotherham were atrocious. But for the first time in a couple of years now, the basic principles of defending were observed. Holding your shape, staying in position, communicating with your fella defenders,  it was all on show, so no surprise that we actually looked like a defensive unit.

Now i don't want to go OT, but if you haven't got those basic skills at this point, you never will. Which is the exact reason we have been a laughing stock for years. The reason why it was correct decision to let Clark go, and the reason why Richards needs to be shown the door quickly l.

Yesterday wasn't some defensive masterclass, and there will be more difficult challenges to come, but they are at a completely different level to what we have become accustomed to.

This.  Good players make the game look easy.  He was calm throughout and none of the panic seen previously.  If he and Elphick stay fit throughout the season, they could alone guarantee a top six finish.

For clarity I'm not saying he's as good as McGrath! Only in style.

If he turns out to be half as good as McGrath was though DDID, we will have recruited one helluva player and someone that can greatly assist our quest to get out of this division.

They are both good defenders. That's half the battle.
