Micah Richards

By all accounts, we are signing him to play centre-back though, backed up by our bid for Trippier, so that's how the signing should be viewed. He may well do really well there but not proven.

The signing should be viewed on a rumour to a player spurs are signing?

Can't believe this went through. Fantastic news. Great times to be a claret and blue.

Welcome Micah.

More than a rumour, it was claimed by Percy and the Birmingham Mail amongst others.

By all accounts, or by one or two accounts that you really can't seem to get over?

Mat Kendrick:

It is thought the versatile defender will be employed as a central defender rather than a full-back by Tim Sherwood.

John Percy:

Sherwood has told Richards he views him as a centre-half, rather than a right-back, with uncertainty still surrounding the future of Ron Vlaar.

Daniel Taylor:

Aston Villa have shown their faith in Micah Richards to recapture his best form by signing him on a four-year contract and offering him the chance to re-establish himself in the centre of their defence rather than as a full-back.

...

Vlaar is approaching the end of his contract, with several offers elsewhere, and one of the reasons Sherwood was tempted by Richards is because the 26-year-old started his career in that central role. Richards eventually moved to the right-back spot for Manchester City but likes the idea of the positional change and the opportunity to find regular first-team football.

Sami Mokbel:

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood is considering using Micah Richards as a centre back next season as the defender prepares to join this week.

...

Part of the talks centred around the prospect of using the versatile Richards as a central defender next season.

...

Sherwood is set to hand the defender, who spent last season on loan at Fiorentina, a slot in the heart of his defence for the next campaign.

Enough?

Very good signing in my opinion. Big ball playing defender to put a bit of backbone into our defence.

I think we can safely say we wont be keeping Vlaar now.

Error.

Richards needs a leader and organiser alongside him as his positional sense isn't great at all, I'm not sure which of our other central defenders would provide that? Maybe Senderos but he seems out the door.

Not sure what he's like in the air defending crosses and corners, we have conceded plenty of header goals under Sherwood's watch so that is room for improvement next season.

Clark looked well with Okore so maybe set up for him

back 3 of Richards Clark Okore could be strong with all 3 decent on the ball and have abilities that compliment each other

anything under 6ft is a full back defender not centre back, maybe im pigeon holing a little, best of luck to him, always liked him

World Cup winning Fabio Cannavaro at 5' 9" disagrees with your assumption.

Ciaran Clark has strung a couple of months decent form together...we're not talking about a season in season out experienced premier league defender quite yet. Can Clark keep it up or will his form nosedive again?

I'd rather he just concentrate on his own game than be given the leadership role in the back 4.
