The Tim Sherwood Thread

In case he's reading this thread in search of ideas (I wouldnt put it past him at this point).

The only time we've played half decent this year is the first 60 odd minutes against Leicester. So I'd go with that as a starting point. Main difference would be to tell my two in the middle to sit and protect the bag four not be all over the pitch as Westwood was that day leaving Sanchez to get regularly roasted by whoever happened to be streaming through the middle.

It seems that is the only formation that can get Jack and Gil on the same pitch along with some pace (Adama, Ayew, Sinclair etc Gabby at a real push)

Assuming for a minute that those quotes are an accurate reflection of how he is going about his job and weren't just said to fill an interview, then I think it's not unreasonable to suggest that they are a sacking offence in their own right.

Funny thing is, from reading these quotes from day to day and seeing his demeanor on TV i really am starting to feel sorry for him.  Its like when you watch the office and see David Brent, you know he is a complete muppet, but cant help but feel sorry for him.

I mean he bought all these players so surely he had a first eleven and mode of playing in mind during the summer! Baffling approach if he didnt.

The only thing I can think of is that he was counting on getting Adebayor in and when it became clear he wouldn't come it was too late to get a replacement. Gestede may not have been bought as a regular starter.

While I was never too keen on the idea of Ade, I have to admit that we may have looked a very different proposition on the pitch with him leading the line.

His recent comments only confirm his lack of tactical nous and possessing a 'plan' - he's chancing his hand with every formation and line-up, hoping hoping hoping one of them works.

If he can't set a team up properly after a weeks training, with the benefit of the previous week's performace then he's quite clearly not equipped or qualified for the position of manager.

There's been the obligatory 'the buck stops with me' quote but in the same breath, he states the players aren't fit or 'maverick' enough to play the way he wants. What a deluded charlatan.

If the fanbase are turning, they have to let the club know it.

I'm fortunate, I now live far from Villa Park so can easily resist going week in week out. But I wouldn't blame fans not bothering going to the next disappointing home game, spending time with the family/friends and actually getting some enjoyment from a well earnt weekend off work.

The longer this goes on, the more apathy I feel towards the club as a whole - I want to be proud of our club but am more embarrassed by the crap churned out on the pitch, followed by the managers mouth each week.

Tom Fox has to earn his crust, he may personally like Timmy but this is business and the clubs performance cannot continue in this manner.

Disagree - I don't want a defensive 6.  One defensive midfielder is (or should be!) enough.  You don't need 2 players in that role.

When you're two up, away from home with less than 30 minutes to play I'd have hoped we shut up shop and secured the win. Alas, that didn't happen....

"I keep changing the systems and changing the formations in search of that. On Saturday against Stoke it wasn't there. We need to find it.

"I will be searching for the right formation and the right players to play in it.

"At the moment I think it's only right that I keep changing it because we're not finding the wins."

That's quite an astonishing admission and insight into his approach towards fixing our malaise.  He's basically admitting that he's currently attempting to luck into a winning formation by trying them all out.  It's the complete opposite to having a philosophy and trying to fit the pieces of the jigsaw into that philosophy.  It's this kind of thing far more than the results and the performances that make me worry.  He's sounding more and more like the blagger that we feared and hoped that he wouldn't be.

Pretty much what Lambert was doing and it never worked for him either.

OP seems to suggest we play with 2 defensive midfielders sitting in front of the back four as a general rule of thumb.  No problem with shutting up shop when we're winning (obviously) but wouldn't like to see that employed from the off.

I don't think we need to be starting both Westwood and Sánchez to accommodate, both Gil and Grealish. It's not as if those players are lazy and don't work for the team and need compensating for. As long as we've three midfielders behind them like Veretout, Gana and Westwood/Sánchez then I think they should be fine.

What confuses me is that you can almost make like-for-like changes from the team that turned the season round last year.  Ok we lose Delph and Benteke's quality but Richards, Amavi and Gil are at least improvements on Vlaar, Richardson and Zog and Gana before his injury was playing really well in midfield.  It seemed odd that Gana flew out to see a specialist for his injury and at the end of the week was in the starting line-up, perhaps that was a mistake.

He's kinda doomed isn't he  ...  possibly we wont get anything from our next 5 games   ...so we could see ourselves cut adrift by 10  or more points by that point  ..
