villan-scott Posted August 31, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted August 31, 2014 Bruce said today it wasn't going to happen for them, so can rule them out I reckon.
StanBalaban
Probably a 1 year loan will happen if it's a wage issue, and he might go to Hull anyway. No way Man U will loan him out as they'll get no money for him after the loan. They'll want the 7/8m for him now.
samjp26
A loan makes no sense if there are clubs bidding £8m for him

True, but if the player digs his heels in and says he does not want a move what can they do? At least a loan usually results in the other club paying the wages, and would keep his options open for a year. Just saying like.
jonno_2004
If this happens it will depend on a) Evernot coming in with a late bid and b} his desire to come here provided we match his wages. I didn't think this was a go-er from the start and while there's no doubt he would improve the team I've seen more than enough from Richardson and the improving (again) Westwood to not be too disheartened should it fail to come off - I can think of other players who would also improve the team for £8m. Popular Post nik986
I'd be disappointed not to see Cleverley, however, if he isn't keen, lets not break our backs convincing the lad; lets find a player who wants to play for Villa.
DCJonah
I just hope we have others we can go for if it doesn't come off for us. I'm still feeling confident he is coming.
Villain-from-Texas
Wage demands are indeed the issue, according to The Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/aston-villa/11066829/Tom-Cleverleys-8m-move-to-Aston-Villa-from-Manchester-United-threatened-by-players-wage-demands.html Cleverly reportedly wants £60k a week. jacketspuds
If his wage demands are a problem lets throw 8m at Derby for Hughes. He's a quality player and would command lower wages.
nik986
It seems this deal may well be off, at the very least, will go down to wire. Maybe will get a golden payment from United, so at least they get some cash for him?

RMB
Not really sure who he would replace. See him playing in Delph's role but I think Delph is better and according to that report we've offered him first team football.
smetrov
looks dead in the water to me. Seems we made him an offer and he never came back with an answer - hope Lambo has other targets
Supervillan78
Mail think Cleverley's poised to join us, with Diame off to Hull... Mohamed Diame's £3.5million move to Hull City from West Ham is back on with Tom Cleverley set to choose Aston Villa over the Tigers. Diame has been pushed down the pecking order at Upton Park following the summer arrivals of fellow midfielders Cheikhou Kouyate and Alex Song. Diame joined the Hammers in 2012 after three impressive seasons with Wigan, and in January last year Arsenal were rumoured to be interested in the Senegalese midfielder. Manchester United and England midfielder Cleverley is poised to join Villa in an £8m move. The United youth product was used consistently by both David Moyes and Alex Ferguson but his time at Old Trafford appears to be drawing to a close. Phumfeinz
Would we even go for Tom Cleverley in the first place knowing full well that his wages would be high?
VillaChris
If his wage demands are a problem lets throw 8m at Derby for Hughes. He's a quality player and would command lower wages. Will Hughes is overrated and would probably take a year or two to actually do anything at prem level like Delph. Craig Bryson is the best midfielder at Derby and would only cost about 4m.
