Transfer Speculation (Winter 2014)

Defour is looking likely to move to the PL but I can see someone like Swansea or Newcastle (esp. if Cabaye leaves) snapping him up.

We're going for loans and we'll have to settle for that.

I thought it was 1 loan and possibly 2 permanent?

Bring in Defour on a permanent deal and then loan an attacking midfielder... Bring Kiyotake in when the summer hits and then we would be a stronger side for it...

--------------Guzan

---------Okore--Vlaar

Lowton------------------Luna

---------Defour--Delph

----------------Kiyotake

Agbonlahor----------Albie/Weimann

----------------Benteke

No hopefully if we were to get Defour, we'd play him as an AM as he plays for the national team. Being played too deep is part of the reason it has gone wrong at Porto. He is too lightweight to play DM in this league also.

HH can you give us a clue please as to when our first signing will arrive? And are we looking at 3 players total? I certainly hope we can bolster our squad before the Liverpool and Arsenal matches.

Haha yeah sorry I think I posted it twice somehow and didn't know how to edit from my phone, still a bit pished from last night I think.

Anyway, still hoping for a response from HH, would love to get juiced up over a new signing or 3 and getting a concrete date on when the first will arrive gives us all something to look forward to!

Wouldn't it be great to unleash 3 new players for our FA Cup tie, help them get settled in! Oh and they all bag a brace in a thrilling 6-0 victory as we romp into the 4th round...

HH would be committing ITK suicide by predicting the exact timing or identity of signings.

There are just too many variables with getting signings finalized that it would just lead to way too much angst and derision.

I thought HH mentioned we were after a big DM that could also play CB. So Defour wouldn't fit that description. But if we could get him in as well as a DM our team would be so much better. The midfield is the weakest part of the team by far.

Midfield is the weakest yes, but with only one addition...

I don't like these "big DM that could also play CB" type of players any more. We are moving guys around too much as it is. No more back ups please right now. We need specialists who can do well the job they are assigned to.

Cheikhou Kouyaté please :)

An attacking midfielder and a CB/DM are essential.... without either of these we could be in for a rough ride.

If we acquire another CB I could see Clark or Baker being picked at LB for certain games.

Will be interesting to see what happens when Bennett returns to fitness - will he be given a chance at LB again?

Would love us to go in for De Bruyne (Loan) or Kiyotake (permanent) for the attacking midfielder berth but would be happy for us to bring in Sigurdsen, Chadli or even Pilkington/Hoolahan - we just need someone to play the likes of Benteke, Kozak et al in on goal.

As for CB - ideally it would be Lescott on a loan - I do like the look of Kouyate too.

The rumours of Defour appear to be old news rehashed but he would certainly add something to our faltering midfield.

Barry Silkman on Sky reckons "3 of the bottom 8" will do the most business this window. I found his cutoff point interesting given that we are 8th from bottom.

Lawro:

Aston Villa

What they need in a nutshell: Not much to spend, even if they wanted to.

Window shopping: Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert did not panic last January when Aston Villa were on a poor run and I cannot see him panicking now.

He needs a fit and rejuvenated Christian Benteke in the team, scoring goals again. Benteke has been out of form this season but there is no point Lambert buying a new striker when he has such a good one already in his squad, unless he thinks he can trade him. He might surprise us all because he might think that he could get £20m for Benteke and then bring somebody else in - he could get two or three players with that sort of money. Otherwise, there will not be massive funds available for him to spend.

Linked with: Jamaal Lascelles 20, CB (Nottingham Forest), Mousa Dembele 26, CM (Tottenham), Simeon Slavchev 20, CM (Litex Lovech), Wilfried Zaha 21, FW (Manchester United), Ashley Young 28, FW (Manchester United), Paul-Georges Ntep 21, CF (Auxerre).
