  1. Might as well start. According to the Birmingham Mail we are interested in Barnsley defender Liam Lindsey. He has a girls name so seem to be in line with previous transfer strategy. Anyone seen him play?
  2. There’s been a lot of chat about us going after him in the general speculation thread, now some of the more “reputable” (pinch of salt still required) sources have picked up on it, I thought he deserves his own thread. Sky Sports Jack Butland
  3. This one might have legs, reported by Percy. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/06/12/aston-villa-target-leeds-united-midfielderkalvin-phillips-14m/?WT.mc_id=tmg_share_tw
  4. momo

    Ethan Ampadu

Since it's on the Guardian, I think it is a bit serious.
  5. This Leeds crest calamity has got me thinking about the Villa badge again. The tweak makes it more palatable, but for me, it still doesn't work. I think we should have a circular badge with ASTON VILLA FOOTBALL CLUB spelled out, 1874, and a Euro star. Anyone want to play this game? I'm not handy designing my own, but I'd love to see some ideas. Maybe we can have a vote and submit the best one to @TonyXia?
  6. Early days I know but with players being told about their futures today and tomorrow then we should have a good idea about what squad we have left and what gaps are to be filled in due course. I reckon by 1st June this will be our squad remaining. I will assume that Gardner, McCormack, Tshibola won't get a look in. I am confident we will sign at least Hause and El Ghazi and most probably Mings but I will leave him out for now. GKs Steer Kalinic Nyland RBs Elmo Guiilbert Bree LBs Taylor CBs Chester Hause RM Adomah Green LM El Ghazi CM Grealish McGinn Hourihane Lansbury Thor CF Kodjia Davis Hogan Questions: 1. Who would you sell? 2. Anyone with expiring contract that you would retain? (I have assumed Steer will stay) 3. What positions are key? For me: 1. Adomah, Lansbury, Thor, Hogan 2. Only Steer - no room for sentiment so no Whelan for me 3. LB, CB, DM, RM and ST - Ming is the obvious one for CB but we will still need to sign another 1 or 2 depending on Chester. LB needs to be a big signing, a modern full back. DM is the key position as Hourihane is a great option but we need better in the PL imo. RM - Lolley, Bowen etc. Striker - I wouldn't go for Abraham personally. Maupay for me.
  7. With there being many threads of our players - some with debate if they're staying or leaving, this thread has been created to discuss those players who we think could, should or will be leaving us in 2019. Kicking off then, I have highlighted below those I feel who'll fall into the above imo. Orjan Nyland - So far he has been very shakey and not filled me with confidence. One I would look to sell or loan out. Jed Steer - Out of contract in June, not sure if he is worth another contract and I would let him go. Mark Bunn - Out of contract in June and barely features anyway. Why he was given a one year extension I have no idea. Micah Richards - Leaves in June. At last! Ritchie De Laet - Out of contract and not sure he would cut it in the Premier League anymore anyway. Neil Taylor - Not good enough at this level or Premier League and needs moved on. Alan Hutton - Out of contract in June sadly and will be a shame to see him leave. Tommy Elphick - Another player who has had a topsy turvy time at Villa, hopefully he can help us with promotion before his contract expires in June. Decent at this level imo. Ahmed Elmohamady - Another player who is best as a back up player at this level and should be sold. Aaron Tshibola - Hopefully he can be offloaded by loan or sale. Cannot see a future here for him. Jordon Lyden - Too injury prone imo and cannot see his contract being renewed in June. Glenn Whelan - Out of contract in June and can barely cut it in this league anyway. Birkir Bjarnason - Decent backup option for a team at this level and should sell him while we can still command a few quid. Mile Jedinak - Knees are shot and out of contract in June. Henri Lansbury - This league is his level but too injury prone imo and should be sold. Andre Green - Can't see what he would offer us in the PL. I would cash in now. Gary Gardner - Not good enough and his Villa career is over. Sell or loan. Albert Adomah - Not the player he was when he joined. Handy backup for someone at this level. Ross McCormack - Villa career is over. Should be sold but will prob be loaned again. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy - Once a promising youngster but won't cut it in the PL imo. Kiernan Davis - Another player full of promise that is not living up to his early hype. Loan out unless an offer is made. Cannot see him in the PL. Scott Hogan - Sell to a team at this level. Not the player he once was. Johnny Kodja - Still decent at this level and could sell to recoup a few quid. Would keep him as a backup striker but at PL level, i'm not so sure. Sell. Of our group of players we have in on loan: Andrea Moriera - Not good enough. Tammy Abraham - Would sign him for sure if the price was right. £30m tops. Axel Tuanzebe - Another player with a big future ahead of him and would also sign him if the price was right. £25m tops. Yannick Bolasie - Shown little glimpses of magic here and there but is worryingly inconsistent at this level and not worth £70k pw wages. Return to parent club. Kortney Hause - *Not yet played* Anwar El Ghazi - Not lit the place alight so far and remains to be seen what he can actually do. I wouldn't extend his loan based on what i've seen so far though. The above analysis is mainly based on us winning the play-offs and returning to the PL. - If we fail I imagine a few of these players may be retained or offered a contract extension. What are your thoughts folks...

    Going Under ?

Apparently HMRC have issued a winding up order..... Other than this no being good news - I don't know the implications ? - any finance gurus ?
  9. An article this morning in The Times regarding Championship clubs selling then leasing back their grounds, says Villa Park may be sold if we are not promoted.
  10. So with our new Sporting Director, Manager and Assistant Manager in place, who do we think we'll be looking at in January? Wonder if Terry might be able to lure Gary Cahill back to Villa? We sorely need a solid CB to partner Chester.
  11. https://thisisfutbol.com/2019/01/blogs/championship/villa-trying-to-sign-leroy-fer/ Wounder if any truth to this - always looked decent when I have seen him play. Thoughts?
  12. If we don't win promotion Bruce is surely out. If we win promotion, I can't see Tony sticking with him in the Premier League. Who would you like to have (realistically) to replace him?
  13. I have added a variety of names who do you want? I voted for Rodgers, but would be happy with Wilder, or Flores
  14. So. I know it's early and there's a long way to go this year. We may even be in a different division. We may not. One thing that is for sure is the rules have changed. The transfer window opens on June 9th and closes on Thursday 9th August at 5pm. So there are no transfers after the first fixture of the PL. And no one is staying up till midnight anymore. A week or so ago the EFL decided to join the party. https://www.efl.com/news/2018/february/earlier-closure-of-transfer-window-agreed-by-efl-clubs/ So if we don't go up we would still be able to loan players or sign free contract players up until the 31st August then. If we manage to go up then we'll need to have everything done before the first game. Senior contracts that expire (according to transfermarkt) this summer are John Terry (37) Chris Samba (34 in a few weeks time) Alan Hutton (33) Mark Bunn (33) Gabriel Agbonlahor (31) Snodgrass, Johnstone, Tuanzebe, Onomah and Grabban all come to the end of their loans. Gollini, Gil, Elphick, DeLaet, Gardner and Tshibola also come to the end of theirs. Players with 1 year left on their contracts will be Whelan (34) Jedinak (34 in the summer) Elphick (30) Richards (30 in the summer) DeLaet (29) Gil (25) Steer (25) Lyden (22) Green (20 in the summer) Anyway the summer transfer talk is starting to come out a bit so I thought maybe it was already time for a thread. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-manchester-united-johnstone-14380943 Anyway window closes early so its only fair to open the thread so early is what I'm claiming and standing by I like the window closing basically before the league starts. It's about time really.
  15. He comes with 3 PL winners medals and a name worthy of our defensive gameplan. Edit: agent is a fake account and just seen already discussing in speculation thread. Delete thread mods.

    John Terry

  17. Any news on the DOF and CEO appointments?
  18. With news of American baseball investors, British consortiums and no doubt a few other problematic nationalities, and Tony's accounts locked down in China (believe that or not) - I have a feeling we will be sold on quite soon. I would be quite happy with a lower level figure this time, with 'only' a few hundred million to their name but with all the necessary business savvy to get us back and keep us there. Provided we aren't docked a squillion points for going into administration.
  19. TRO

    Thierry Henry

stop press!!! Corals suspend the betting on Thierry Henry to replace Steve Bruce.
  20. We don't have a CEO at the moment - Obviously we need one before long (or do we ?) a few options Xia Himself Brian Little Howard Hodgson Steve Round Or could we have a new board with a combo of some of the above and some Xia's trusted staff

    Firesales

So who do we sell to try and raise funds and meet FFP because of the diminishing parachute payments Kodija and Hogan for me
  22. I now feel there has been enough time to assess Bruce, now that we know pretty much where this season is ending. I still count this (not everyone does I know I know) as his first full season and he's pretty much got us play-offs barring something daft. This squad, whatever happens will change wholesale next season, and actually I don't mind that, I think we've witnessed a very good effort from a team composed of loan signings and others all of who do not know their future after this year - it was only ever to be a one season squad. The manager, has to take credit for achieving play-offs (not certain yet yes yes yes) and he will take enormous credit if he gets us promoted (I do think we have a great shot) - and he should stay at the club next season if he achieves that. If he doesn't then, he has said so himself, it's time for a different model and cutting our cloth accordingly - and I for one, do not mind the prospect of this one bit. It's actually how I'm insulating myself from the crushing despair that may come our way in a few weeks. So what next? This is a topic about what next in the prem, or what next in the championship. I'll leave the prem ideas to others, what I'm quite excited about is a new manager working with our talented youngsters including I hope Grealish, dashed with a bit of experience (Jedi, Chester if they stay, Kodjia might too after that injury) and us building a style of play that we can take into the prem and stick with, not building a squad for one season only, ever again.
  23. Right then, the clocks have changed and it's getting colder, and we've been linked to Carrick. Is it time to start discussing the Jan window? I think so. MANCHESTER UNITED legend Michael Carrick is attracting interest from Aston Villa and Leicester, according to reports. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/872640/Manchester-United-Aston-Villa-Leicester-Michael-Carrick-Transfer-News
  24. So with the start of the window coming soon do we think any faces will be leaving us come January? Surplus imo:- Bunn- contract expires end of season anyway. Richards, Elphick, De Laet, Lyden,- contracts end in summer 2019 and Tshisbola & McCormack end 2020. If we can offload this bunch and recoup about £6m in fees and slice a big chunk off the wage bill too and allow us to bring in players that we will use.
