kurtsimonw
Thought he was rubbish yesterday. He ain't a bad player actually but let's not fool ourselves - he's only at the Villa because he's dirt cheap. He was hardly rubbish. Maybe not an eyecatching performance, but linked up with the midfield just fine and put in some crunching tackles. Needs to improve the link between midfield and attack better, but that's probably as much down to Gabby and Andi as anything else. Pointless playing balls to the front two with their backs to goal. Its the midfield that's the problem. Absolutely zero creativity. But they weren't. There was plenty of balls drilled in to or across the 6 yard box, where were the strikers? The midfield was completely fine.
avfc1982
Sorry I forgot about Delph - he played well, but I've never understood the love in with Westwood. I thought he was his usual average self yesterday and he could have lost us the game with that pathetic attempt at clearing the ball on the edge of his own area only to lose possession (something he's mastered over the time he's been here) leaving Newcastle with a clear shot on goal. We've sorted out the defence. Now we need to sort out the rest of the team. Sorry but just one shot at goal in 2 games just isn't good enough for Aston Villa. What are the strikers supposed to do with them? And by the way neither of our striker are target men. We need a decent winger.
kurtsimonw
What? There was balls by Weimann and Cissokho that were especially good. Where was Gabby? Standing on the edge of the box, marked by 3 players. What are midfielders supposed to do if there's no movement in front of them? If we're talking who deserves the blame here, it's the forwards and it's not even close. I think you'll find very few who agree with you.
StanBalaban
Cissokho whipped a couple of good crosses and I seem to remember Andi, of all people, fizzed a properly good ball across the box only for there to be no one attacking it.

There were at least half a dozen really, really good balls into dangerous areas, cissoko, delph, weimann and westwood from central areas, If these had been anticipated and attacked by one of the forwards they would have been goal scoring chances. That's why Bent should be playing ahead of Gabby, especially at home.

I hope you see soon why so many rate westy.

I'd go as far to say that if Benteke, Kozak or Bent started, those would not have been chances.... ... they would have been goals. We really need them back soon. LondonVillian
Gabby needs to be dropped not performing as the central striker play bent or give Andy a punt down the middle for once
rodders0223
We finally have a midfielder who is willing to bomb on and get ahead of the strikers. Opens up the whole pitch, ecspecially at home.

True. Hats off to Lambert for picking him up from being left back at a relegated team and giving him a more advanced role.

Popular Post jonno_2004
Somewhat of an unsung hero I think, has impressed me every time I've seen him.
P3te
I've been very impressed with him too. Very solid player. He won't grab the headlines too often, but he'll put in a shift and not drop too many clangers. That looks to be the difference with us this season, we have less potentially fatal errors in team now. We're not playing any differently, it's just that we're actually doing what we're supposed to more often than not
Milfner
Puts a shift in every time which is the minimum requirement. Cleverley will be a big upgrade on him though.

ROTTERDAM1982
Good movement, and good energy. No coincidence that the midfield looks a better unit with a player in who actually makes runs off the ball. A good free.
