islingtonclaret
Still, some good has come out of it. The Craig Charles funk show and Huey Lewis, Gilles has been moved to 6Music. Cerys' shows pretty good. The only thing I can't abide is Guy Garvey's Sunday service. My god he plays some depressing cack! Huey Lewis? (and the News?) It's Hip to be Square, you know? Quite like that Huey Morgan guy too. Also, they saw sense eventually and ditched Bowman! I cannot believe I just called Huey Morgan Huey Lewis. dont_do_it_doug.
So when these "DJ's" are chatting incessantly and having shite phone in competitions they actually think we want to hear it? I understand specialised pod casts but it's very rare anyone on main stream radio is going to have anything interesting to say.Obviously that's your opinion. I'd say the fact that Radio 1 and 2's breakfast shows (a lot of which is "talk") average about 16 million listeners between them (and I'm fairly sure those figures don't include anyone under 18) suggests plenty of people want to hear it. 16 million that's like 1 in 4 people, surely that can't be accurate? Those are the figures quoted. Think it's 6.75 million for Grimshaw and 9.something million for Evans. Dunno how they're worked out to be fair, but safe to say it's a lot of people. Edit: It's an average weekly audience. Whatever that means They can't be correct. I seriously doubt a quarter of the population listen to any form or radio/media in the morning, never mind all of them listening to that pair of twunts. There's an awful lot of assumption that goes into those figures. Assumption used to their advantage to justify the license fee. They can be used as a comparison tool though of course. DJ to DJ etc... AndyM3000
It's just full of adverts, people talking about pointless things, and of course you get the same 4 songs on repeat all day.
coda
BBC doesn't have adverts. 6Music needs to cut the chat at times.

Wainy316
Bruno Mars - Locked out of heaven Passenger - Let her go With the odd Avicii song thrown in. Played on a loop all day every day on all radio stations it seems. Has been the case for well over a year and doesn't look like relenting any time soon. One that I keep on hearing recently when I happen to catch the radio (in the gym, barbers etc) is Jason Derulo - Trumpets. If you haven't heard it, these are actual lyrics from the song: "Is it weird that I hear Trumpets when you’re turning me on? Turning me on Is it weird that your bra Remind me of a Katy Perry song?". I mean....WTF!?

Figures are independent. Issued by Rajar, not the BBC. I assume, but don't know, that they're calculated in the same way, i.e. a sample size of a couple of hundred thousand extrapolated to represent the population. Not hugely accurate, but the best way that anybody does it. And all radio stations are rated the same way. I'd also assume there's a fair amount of overlap. If one person listens to Radio 2 and Radio 1 in a week then they go on both lists, if that makes sense. Either way, like I said all radio stations are rated the same way and Radio 1 and 2, along with Radio 4 are absolutely miles out in front It's all here if you can make any sense of it. There was a Guardian article t'other day that summarised it all. for what it's worth, RAJAR reckon 91% of the population listen to the radio at some point during the week in some form. CarewsEyebrowDesigner
That Avicii song is the most irritating thing I've ever heard, and I hear it everywhere. Some annoying snot nosed little douchebag always plays it via his phone on the bus in the morning, or some snot nosed little crack-head sings it badly in her nasally, whiny 'oh I think I'm Christina Aguilera listen to me warble like a dying walrus' voice on the bus on the way home. It is in every **** shop in existence, for a reason I don't fully understand, because it is a shit **** song, and I mean really shit, so **** shit that I would listen to Cheeky Girls or Mr **** Blobby over it. dAVe80
Didn't know where to put this, but I think here is the right place for now. Guided By Voices have posted on various social media sites, that there will be an "announcement" from them today. If rumours are true, and they're touring in the UK / Europe, then I'll move this to the " things that cheer you up" / "gig" threads. At the moment though, the waiting to find out is pissing me off. leemond2008
I can honestly say I have no idea who this Avicii is, I don't ever listen to the radio and when I do I use TuneIn Radio on my phone because you can actually listen to stations all over the world and whatever genre you can imagine, on my favourites I have got bluegrass and Americana stations, nowhere in England can you get them on normal or DAB radios as far as I know
