Popular Post sidcow Posted April 23, 2017 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted April 23, 2017 I have to say fair enough. Nothing is forgiven or forgotten but in my 30+ years or regularly watching this team I can't recall a player coming on and totally galvanising the fans, team and performance to such an extent. It really was a case of Gabby Agbonlahor 1, Birmingham City 0.

Popular Post Stockport_Villain
He's taken a lot of stick, and some of it rightly so. However, that said, when he came on he made the rest of the midfield and forwards look like the players they actually are. Medium rate Champioship players. Well done Gabby, and hope the rest begin to raise their game. Edited April 23, 2017 by Stockport_Villain
leemond2008
I've been telling everyone for ages that Gabby is a great player and that he deserves another chance, he can help us gain promotion next season, I reckon he deserves a new contract with a pay rise. good old Gabby
Popular Post markavfc40
I suspect if you look at stats you'd think he scored the goal and did little else. The reality is that he completely changed the game from the second he came on though. Obviously very much due to his past derby endeavours he instantly lifted the crowd and then he pretty much straight away set about chasing/closing down the Birmingham players. Where as the player he replaced in Grealish seemed hesitant and almost scared to get stuck in Gabby was the complete opposite. By his actions he got everyone going. I don't know what future he has here going forward. What I do know is that since Bruce came in when he has featured for us he has done okay and played very well on a few occasions. If he can keep himself fit then I wouldn't be surprised if he proved to be a very useful player for us next season. For now though I am happy to rejoice in yet another huge goal he has scored for us. Very much this. Zero fear. Zero **** given. That wasn't a big stage for Gabby as it was for every other on that pitch. He wasn't intimidated or fearful of the expectations.
mikeyp102
Fired up the crowd. Stopped Shotton having an easy ride (we'd previously made him look like maldini). And then to top it off scored that goal!! You've been a lot what is wrong with this club the last few years, but credit where it's due today. Just what the good doctor ordered.
NeilS
New Deal? This will please a few. Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce says Gabby Agbonlahor's timely derby winner against Birmingham City may help earn the striker a surprise new deal. The 30-year-old scored his first goal for 14 months in Sunday's 1-0 victory.

It's a ridiculous suggestion by Bruce. Lets just forgot about todays goal. The guy has been a laughing stock for years, got himself so unfit he had to lose a stone when Bruce came in. He had all of January to make an impact and was useless. Had to be put on a fitness regime mid season. In a relegation year when 'Mr Aston villa' should have been inspiring some passion amongst the team he was, quire rightfully, shunned because he couldn't even get himself in a state to challenge for a first team place. He has done nothing for years to warrant a new contract. He should go with some grace and try to start afresh elsewhere. Today should be his leaving present to us all. We are very grateful, but please let that be it!

Yes, One Swallow does not a Summer make, or whatever the saying is? I am happy for him to score today, but he has a lot to do to make up for last season and earn a new deal in my opinion. Even then, it would be a year contract at most.
Dodgyknees
Four decent performances and two goals in two years, we need more players like that.
Guest av1
I've got absolutely no idea how you can spend £100m over a couple of windows and then need Gabby to get you out the shit against a crap blues side. Credit where its due however. Completely changed the game today, not through quality but endeavour. Gabby was the hardest working player on the pitch today. I'm not of that says more about Gabby, Bruce, or the rest of the squad.
kurtsimonw
Worked incredibly hard on and off the ball. Not enough of this from him, but more of that and he deserves a place in the squad.

He has to be ahead of Bacuna, Amavi, and Grealish at this point.
VillaChris
Regardless of the goal, giving him a new deal would be staggering incompetence. What's wrong with letting the year he's got left run and making him EARN a new deal next season. Actually scoring 10 goals next season as back up to Kodjia and Hogan. Clubs will hardly be queuing up to sign him and in any case he didn't want to move to Reading when they came in August so it works both ways. TBF if he can stay fit he can be a decent option at this level. I thought he was o.k in some of the January games he played. Just giving a new 3 year deal or whatever because he scored v SHA is pretty stupid. Edited April 23, 2017 by VillaChris
Keener window-cleaner
How about giving Gabby a new pay-as-you-play deal, and then only play him in the derbies?

I don't know if it's consecutive, but he's now scored in twelve different seasons for Villa - he'll have to score in three more for a share of the record.
