Havertz has said in a news conference that he will pay his own travelling expenses.

Earlier reports were obviously misleading and deliberately so.

He said he will pay the whole of Chelsea's travel expenses.

Like I said previous, it's getting a bit boring from the media, to keep asking Tuchel about the politics and Roman? If I was him I wold tell his reps to advise the media not to ask, although I reckon it must be in Sky's contract to get info, they love a bit of juice

Chelsea withdrew the request after discussions with FA.

Honestly, do they sit down in the executive lounges, smoke cigars, drink whisky, and think they can do anything?

Is there no one in the room to say "boss, this isn't a good idea, maybe we should think about that one?"

Thanks for the correction!

I thought that is what he said, but found it hard to believe - someone else's turn next time, maybe?

The media are always revolting in the way they try to trap someone into saying something they can hang them with later.

Since 19 years have passed since Abramovich bought the club, and 18 trophies later, it seems a bit sudden to decide he is now persona non grata.

Meanwhile the Saudis have publicly executed 81 men, and they are considered morally upstanding.

Simon Jordan came up with a good saying earlier "the media should report the news not make the news"

This is a great example of the cesspit the world is becoming.

Really don't understand why they can't just hold a ballot for existing season ticket holders and give the tickets away for free, or allow the home club to retain the profits.

Graeme nailed it.

I can think of something more embarrassing, posted just under a year ago;

''Chelsea FC has today joined eleven of Europe’s leading clubs in forming a new mid-week competition, the European Super League.''
https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2021/04/18/club-statement?utm_source=tw&utm_medium=orgsoc&utm_campaign=none

It amazes me that supporters of clubs like Chelsea are surprised by anything that the owners decide to do. Last thing they care about is fans, how can anyone think any different?

You're right - 3 hours by Train from that London to Middlesbrough.

The train was good enough for these guys:

I really think that Chelsea have no shame in having asked to have their game played behind closed doors and then moaning that they can't afford to fly to Boro. Will they never learn?

It's understandable that they'll get allowances in the licence they are operating under.  The sanctions are just a blunt instrument which says "no trade" then the wrinkles get ironed out later.   I understand the trip to Lille had already been paid for before the sanctions were made so it was unaffected but going forwards, yes, they'll have to cut their cloth accordingly.    Football clubs often travel by train though, Manchester City do it all the time as do England when they travel from St Georges Park (near Lichfield Trent Valley) to Wembley for home games.  They probably get a good deal with the tickets too as the train operating company are more than happy to publicise these trips.

Lazy guess would be that they've paid up for the year already and it won't kick in until next season

The noise has been made, the marketing manager got his bonus, now its back to life as usual

And by next season there will be a new owner or half these sanctions will be forgotten about and so things continue as normal.

Disgusting

Chelsea fans tear gassed by French police after chanting Roman Abramovich's name (msn.com)

Chelsea fans clashed with French riot police ahead of last night’s Champions League game in Lille.

The crisis-hit Premier League club advanced to the quarter finals following a 4-1 aggregate win over Lille, but the match was largely overshadowed by the trouble that preceded it.

Gendarmes in full riot gear were forced to launch tear gas canisters at a group of fans who had been drinking throughout the day in close proximity to Lille-Flanders station..........
