Well you'd say Delph going is a massive opportunity for him, it really could be make or break now. I so hope he manages to overcome the horrible injuries and fulfull his potential. Could be a future captain if so.

Fingers crossed!

How did he play against Fulham?

I want him to succeed, great lad, Villa fan, academy graduate and all that.

But honestly? Bad. Slower than Cole and generally had a poor game. His one positive was his free kick skills which are still good. Aside from that, he really looked poor :(

Way too early in pre-season for that.

He had a pretty crap time at PNE last year before proving a revelation at Forrest in a defensive midfield role.

This early part of pre-season tends to focus solely on building fitness. These are the games where you’d see a centre half rampaging up the pitch never mind the full backs.  Usually not the most disciplined or tactical performances. And as a result usual not the setting for a DM to shine.

When we get back and start working on our shape and tactics we will see if he’s given a chance as a DM and if he can take it.

He is getting better each game IMO, put some good tackles in and played some nice passes tonight, pressed high up the pitch and won the ball back a few times.
