Darren Bent

The other part being that 3 Fulham managers opted to pick unproven kids ahead of him.

Back in the real world:

Firstly - Jol, at Fulham, didn't start unproven kids ahead of him - so you're wrong on that one.

Secondly - Meulensteen, in the league, only started a kid in front of him on 1 occasion and Bent came off the bench in that game and scored.

The Fulham manager who consistently picked kids ahead of him was Magath and he lasted 20 games and only won 4 of them! (to be fair to Felix though Lambert has only won 4 in 23 games so he can count himself a bit unlucky!!!)

He is not bad at all. Feed him balls and he will hit them towards goal. On in four/five shots will go in. Playing at Villa, he would at most get one chance a game, miss it, and then get blamed for Villa's demise.

I understand the need for a runner up top, but Bent is Bent, not Gabby.

He seems to gave gotten a lot better in some people's eyes in the couple of days he's been out on loan.

Weird.

Don't really think people are being as fickle as you're suggesting.

For the last few weeks attempting to argue anything different to the majority opinion was usually shot down by 'Yeah but look how fat he is' or something of that ilk. So not surprising a few differing opinions have popped out the woodwork so to speak when there is some evidence to back it up.

But there is no evidence to back it up.

6 days ago he came on against Southampton and Lambert got ridiculed for daring to bring on a striker who was so utterly terrible (not my opinion). And he hardly put in a performance to prove that opinion wrong.

Now he's shipped said terrible striker out on loan, and suddenly he's actually a good striker and we should have kept him and he should have been playing the whole time!

He had a good game and scored a goal, albeit in the championship, can see how this can be seen as contrary evidence to the usual "fat and completely useless" opinion.

Would bank on, although have neither the time nor inclination to check, those who are being remotely positive about him now have been in the past and haven't suddenly changed their opinion, as I mentioned before as one of these people who didn't agree with the majority opinion of Bent, this has been a thread to avoid for a while. So it's not as if people have people have suddenly changed their viewpoint but they have some cause to express it.
