What xG shows you is how many shots each team got off in dangerous areas. It doesn’t tell you who was in goal, whether it was a goalscorer or a centre back who took the shot, what the match situation was when it happened, etc.

It’s a useful way of understanding the battle, that’s all. People think it shows who the “real” winner was… that’s the bit that’s poppycock.

And it used to be such a simple game.

So many beautiful positives from today but I think my favourite is that we've only just gone and won five PL matches in a row for the first time since 1998 (nineteen ninety-eight). At last. Get in! Like the good old times again.  : )

Even if we don’t win another game this season, will be worth it just to beat this lot. They thought they were coming here for an easy 3 points, their fans fell for all the “only beat bottom teams” and xG nonsense.

I can't remember the last time I saw such a complete Villa performance, 10/10 all around. This is the best football we have played since the latter days of Houllier, and now even better. I started following Villa under Ron Atkinson and I don't think I can remember us ever playing this good, perhaps some time under Brian Little or some performance under MoN with Milner, Barry, Young, Petrov, Downing.

I love how just a couple of minutes after the disallowed goal, we smashed in the second. A winning mentality is settling in this team, finally!

Villa showed no weak, vulnerable, underperforming player, anywhere.  what a joy to watch.  I thought Buendia was the standout.  He challenged everything everywhere, he pissed off the opposition.  He was involved in nearly all of our positive moves and he kept possession in traffic at times that he had no right to do so.  I was not surprised we did not make a sub till after the 80th minute becuase there was actually no way to think of someone on the bench doing a better job in the place of the guy who was doing it on the pitch.
