Yes because if you read my post you will see I am talking about all round team performance where every player knows his role, executes it perfectly and the whole team play together as a well-oiled machine. The 7-2 was great of course but we all knew really it was a one-off and indeed the next twenty matches that season produced 8 wins, 3 draws and 9 defeats. There was a sense today that the performance was a further step in a team ethic that Emery has been patiently building and was the latest step in a remarkable run of consistency. No way could the 7-2 team achieve over 2 points per match as Emery’s team has.

I would say the good news is we no longer need to return to a freak result that happened over two years ago as a comfort blanket. Comfort is here and now!

I’m wondering if you ever saw the performances under Saunders and Barton. If so, you will know what I am talking about.

This is a very good point! That was a massive moment that first chance after just 25 seconds hitting the post, it shook them up and laid the foundations for us.

Yeah it was a pop at the Newcastle lot claim our xG was shite & we were over achieving so that meant a Newcastle win just shows like what you've said, it's poppycock. & yep a beautiful performance best yet under Emery

Unbelievable performance. Everyone played well to excellent. Totally bossed the game versus one of the form sides in the league and could have been more. McGinn is a beast and Watkins looks like scoring every game.

We have seen so many false dawns and missed chances at Villa but today it felt like a creeping realisation that this time we can achieve something truly special. A brilliant day.

I messaged someone on what's app after the game and said,  it's like the Saunders days when we used to dominate teams for fun and defeats were a rarity and quickly rectified. 

Morley said in his inebriated interview the other day that this is the best Villa side in 40 yrs, and that's an opinion I respect.

I voted McGinn MOTM because I hadn’t seen the game and wanted to see the results.

Now I’ve watched it and it’s very clearly Watkins, but lots of great performances across the team.

Probably one of the best team performances I’ve seen from a Villa side in my lifetime.

Have zero interest in the geographical/personal anti Newcastle/anti Villa vitriol that has somehow brewed on both sides in the past 20 years.  

I have a couple of good toon supporting mates and I had many cracking nights out there in my 20's so there's always been a soft spot and "wish you well" attitude from me. 

Today was absolutely superb though,  I woke up 8am nervous and excited like I used to years ago as a young un. I roared and cheered from my couch like it was the playoff final all over again. 

Lots of talk will be about Newcastle being poor but we all know that was a truly outstanding performance from every shirt and one deserving of our pride.

This is such a great time to be a Villan after years of shite and we show no signs of slowing down.

Anyone else checked their passport expiry date recently??

xG isn’t poppycock, it’s just really overused and misunderstood by people who think it’s some kind of “truth”.

What xG shows you is how many shots each team got off in dangerous areas. It doesn’t tell you who was in goal, whether it was a goalscorer or a centre back who took the shot, what the match situation was when it happened, etc.

It’s a useful way of understanding the battle, that’s all. People think it shows who the “real” winner was… that’s the bit that’s poppycock.
