The way Gerrard sets up the midfield with three specialist midfielders rather than trying to play a No.10 as one of the midfield three, means we're less reliant on wingers tracking back, obviously they will still do it to a degree, but now we've got midfielders who also get back and help the fullbacks.

It's not too dissimilar to how Liverpool set up, Mane and Salah don't have to worry too much about tracking back and their fullbacks can play almost in part as wingers, because of how their midfield is set up.

To be honest, I never quite understood it.....I always felt it was the midfielders job in a 3..to drop off and help out.

Wingers should be like fighter planes on a run way, warmed up and ready to go.

Joe Gomez links 😬

No thanks.

Unless he's been severely hampered by his injury which is certainly possible - I haven't seen his limited appearances this year admittedly - but he was very good pre-injury.

If he is capable of playing like that still he would be a big step up on Hause and Tuanzebe.

Was it him that had a nervous breakdown in the 7-2 last season ?

Coutinho?

Can't see him coming to us for a multitude of reasons on both sides, but will be interesting to see where he ends up. If not Italy, I could see the likes of Arsenal and West Ham being possible? Which sounds nuts.

Not a chance. A 29 year old on a huge salary that his last 2 teams hardly used him! Sounds like an awful signing to me for anyone. It’s his type of signing that showed me that Barca have no clue what they are doing and just pick names without any thought of how they will be used or fit into the group

Just done a google and the Couthinho and Gerrard love in is real. Coutinho used to play as Gerrard on his Playstation and Gerrard used to get other people to mark him in training as he is so good.

Thats that. Must be happening !!

Completely out of our price range but i would love to see us take a waning world star just once on loan. I do not remember that ever happening to us before .

Depends how you classify 'waning'

Robert Pires.

But he may more have 'waned' rather than have been 'waning' by the time we got him

Sounds like a Newcastle statement signing to me. It’s the kind of thing they’d love up there.
