PieFacE Posted November 3, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted November 3, 2018 We need a new left back and a new goalkeeper as a priority. I really don't think we need much more than that. Maybe a new right back if Bree is never going to be played. Possibly a new left winger?

We need more strength in depth at the back so yes a left back is important. I do believe Taylor will continue to improve though. We also could do with a centre half. Don’t think we can gamble on 2 never missing a game. Edited November 3, 2018 by Vive_La_Villa

Dr_Pangloss
Keeper, left back, centre half, holding midfielder, in that order. Winger situation hardly perfect either.
Tomaszk
Any of Tom Heaton, Nick Pope, Angus Gunn or Danny Ward would make a huge huge difference I think.
sidcow Posted November 4, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted November 4, 2018 I am excited to see what this squad can achieve with Smith getting the type of player he wants in the positions we need. Shame some of the budget needs to go on a keeper following Bruce's criminality in that department in the summer.

Villan4Life
We are still linked with Ed Wiliams (Kidderminster) 10 goals in 14 games. He has a lot of potential and could be worth a punt: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6350513/Premier-League-clubs-eye-Kidderminster-midfielder-Ed-Williams.html Quote Premier League clubs are monitoring Kidderminster Harriers goalscoring midfielder Ed Williams. The 23-year-old was delivering pizzas to make ends meet only a year ago but has taken National League North by storm, scoring ten goals in 14 games, which has alerted clubs in the top flight. Leeds United, Derby County and Aston Villa have also checked on Williams who was called up to the England C squad to face Estonia last month. Williams has now signed up with football agent John Morris of Key Sports who looks after Leicester City's Jamie Vardy and Joe Lolley of Nottingham Forest, both graduates of non-league football. Indeed, Lolley also played for Kidderminster before being snapped up initially by Huddersfield Town. Scouts watched Williams again on Saturday as high-flying Kidderminster faced Southport. Williams only joined them in the summer from Gloucester City and wasn't even in manager Neil MacFarlane's starting line up at the beginning of the season but he has forced his way in with some outstanding performances showing good quality on the ball as well as providing goals. Though he started out at Cheltenham Town, Williams was a late developer physically and has toughened up with his time in non-league. A graduate from Hartpury College, where he gained a degree in sports performance, his aim is to jump from English football's sixth tier back into the football league. 'Cheltenham was where it all started for me and I learned a lot about myself and what it's like training full-time,' said Williams. 'At the time I felt I wasn't given a fair chance as a pro but I know now that I wasn't ready as I physically hadn't matured yet. Everyone develops at different stages and I feel I'm only going to get better now. 'Ultimately the aim is to get back into the Football League yes. I feel like I'm in a good place right now, more hard work has to be done and playing consistently well this season, maybe the opportunity might come along.' Fowlersrs
January a big window for Smith. A chance to put a stamp on the team for the first time.. it's obvious we are short at the back.. Players I think that we could let go.. Lansbury, Whelan/ Jedinak
Johnnyp
Matt Targett should be very getable . Not getting a look in at Southampton. Would massively improve us at LB.

Sure. He has been. But going forward he doesn't contribute enough . Smith wants us to play as a collective with good movement throughout.

rodders0223
Would love us to sign someone like Jorginho, maybe a cheeky bid. Then again, if we did, would the VP crowd still scream "ger i' forward!!!" after the 10th consecutive pass.
