If we got in a new manager who has a good reputation for good football i can live with that. I don't get it though as at the end of the day we only have two senior strikers in the squad as Wesley is out on loan and Davis is never fit. Having either Ings or Watkins on the bench as back up putting pressure on the other to perform should be a great situation to be in but by trying to shoehorn them both into the starting 11 it is now having a detrimental effect. I have often wondered what Smith would have done if at the start of the season Watkins, Ings, Bailey, Buendia, Traore had all been fit. I get why with a lack of fit wingers he tinkered and went 5/3/2 come 3/5/2 and in fairness it worked for a while. It was never going to be our best formation though and get the best out of what for me is a very talented squad. He needs to have the bollocks to drop either Ings or Watkins and go 4/3/3 with Bailey and Buendia given a run as first choice wide forwards with Traore, El Ghazi, Bidace putting pressure on them from the bench or great options to bring on. Then with Watkins or Ings starting the other can put pressure on the other from the bench or again be a great option to bring on. Smith has done well in helping assemble a really good squad. He now needs to be brave enough to put a couple of noses out of place and pick his best formation - 4/3/3 and put round pegs in round holes. Considering we reacted by throwing in one of the worst first half performances I've ever seen from us it dosen't look too good for us tbh. Just looking at the table and it's worrying how teams are starting to pull clear of us. Everton 2-1 up and they'll be 7 points clear of us and we beat them 3-0 a few weeks ago! At this stage of the season 7 points is manageable but could easily get 10 + points if we don't win in next few games. Think that's the question the owners will have to conclude soon enough. How can a team like Everton who spent barely anything in summer and finished one placing ahead of us be so far ahead. I always assumed he'd leave to finally take up a managerial job but months on and he still dosen't seem to think he's ready. Obviously something happened to make him think he'd done all he could here, did he leave before G***lish went as so much happened in the summer you forget the timeline. I don’t for one minute think we will finish the season as badly as we did that year, although out current form is pretty terrible. I am though sick of being told our start has been okay, that we’ve been unfortunate with injuries, that he needs more time. It has been a poor start, we’ve played poorly in nearly every game and the excuses about injuries just do not cut it.
