More of the January type signings (Hourihane and Lansbury) who were key players at this level for their former clubs with their contracts were running down. Those are the deals we should be looking for this summer to reduce financial risk and increase chances of success on the field with players already doing it at this level. Championship players think they have hit the jackpot when they get to us and some (Lansbury) have yet to show the balls to come into a club this size and dictate play. No more 30 something premiership hand me downs after a last pay check or foreign chancers like Bacuna. We need players on the periphery of their Premier League sides who are hungry, have a point to prove and can cope with the demands of playing at a club this size (Chesters rather than Elphicks). We have to stop putting ourselves down, we are Aston Villa and even after 5 years of mismanagement, the right Manager, approach and playing style will see us promoted. All I could think of today is that we were losing to Reading, we should not even be respecting sides like this, we should be smashing them. Strikes me as a Watford or West Brom signing. Don't see him dropping into the championship. If anything he'll probably see his Man. Derby have yet again failed in their quest for Premiership football, it's about time he progressed his career and made a step up... which could potentially rule us out. Exactly the type of player we need giving us options in the middle of the pitch. We are then able to drop Jedinak into CB if this is Bruce's plan and rotate between Hourihane, Lansbury & Hughes. For me this summer is all about getting some wingers in. Back in the day's of Young & Downing they were our creative outlets and something that has been missing since they departed. Dr_Pangloss Posted April 16, 2017 Share Posted April 16, 2017 (edited) Barry seems far more likely than Young because Barry clearly has a strong emotional connection to the club. Young was terrific for us but always felt we were just one step in his career. Shows how quickly time flies, Young has now been at United longer than he was at the Villa.
