  1. This is a true test of intent. The club have to get their elbows out here and say no. The money isn't really helpful, it's sets a precedent of us being a selling club and we go backwards and it costs money in other ways (lower finish, fewer merch sales, can't attract as good players). I have much more faith in Dean Smith to spend money well than previous managers, but it's not a guarentee. We went massively backwards last time and have had nearly 10 years of turbulence after selling Milner, Young, Barry etc. How much has that actually cost the club really? When you think in these terms, a seasons worth of TV revenue in exchange for our best player and our poster boy for our amibitions makes zero sense. It's simple for me. Keep Grealish and add more quality. Sell him and I cannot see us improving even with the cash available. It's a pivotal moment this! Come on owners, let's get aggressive!
  2. What about Dike on loan at Barnsley from Orlando? He's scored a fair few, only aged 20 and has got them into the play off positions incredibly!
  3. Agreed! Barkley has some wonderful ability with the ball but I am constantly shouting at my screen at him when we don't have the ball. Ramsey came on and was far superior! Barkely can have no complaints about being subbed and can kick the bottle of water all he wants - he needs to pull his finger out. Watkins and Grealish do incredible defending from the front. There can be no passengers! The two sitting midfielders have a far better game when everyone runs their socks off.
  4. We were really unlucky not to win or at least draw away at West Ham. Still a little bit of work to be done defensively and being more clinical but our team is evolving all the time. I think we can win this one 2-1!
  5. Sure, there are some games against largely unknown teams, but as you progress there are some great ties to potnetially play. Remember when we had Ajax at home? That was brilliant. Plus, the prize money and a potential way of getting into the Champions League? I'd take being in the Europa all day long, even if it is a bit of a stepping stone.
  6. Does anybody know when the Holte Suite will be open before the game? I wouldn't mind going in, getting some dinner and beer etc at like 5-6pm
  7. Wolves play on Thursday night in the Europa, may that help us just a little?
  8. Ah missed that. Shame! £25m is a bit steep for a LB for us. I think the gems are to be found in the lesser leagues, obviously a bit more of a gamble. Netherlands, Scotland, France etc I'd hope to see a couple of recruits from there.
  9. Would anyone try any more players from the SPL? Boyata, Tiereny?
  10. Time is needed. Giving time to Smith gives us a better chance of saving time in the long run - i.e someone else starting all over again.
  11. My problem is there's no song we have that is long enough and unique. Hi Ho Aston Villa is boring and used elsewhere, Yipe I a just fizzles out after like 2 or 3 lines.
  12. If Abraham goes, Ollie Watkins did well under Smith at Brentford, I would be happy to see him sign.
  13. He's in the Marc Albrighton phase. We'll release him and then he will win the champions league or something.
  14. But that only leaves us with Terry and Samba (!) and even they might leave. In this scenario, we'd need 3 maybe 4 new centre-backs. We've got to keep JC.
  15. I thought loans could still happen in the EFL after the regular deadline? This was from 2 years ago so maybe something has changed https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/loan-window-open-you-need-7291191 not sure what constitutes an emergency though. Can a club bottom of League 2 declare an emergency just because they're struggling?
  16. We might as well get Callum out on loan for a few months in League 1 or even 2. Much better than just playing u23 football. It did Jack Grealish good playing for Notts County.
  17. I had to Google this as I was thinking, how the hell can you have DRS on a cricket bat (like in Formula 1)...
  18. It doesn't guarantee it, but it gives a much higher chance of being correct. The officials have a chance to catch their breath, talk over the radio, watch it back and then make their decision. I'd much rather that than a split second decision, or perhaps the referee even missing something completely. So if it increases the chances of decisions being correct, why wouldn't you want it?
  19. I watched AC Milan v Udinese in September and VAR was in action. 2 goals were disallowed when they might have otherwise incorrectly stood and changed the whole course of the game. It's quick and makes total sense. I'm just shocked it's taken this long to do this - I mean rugby and tennis have had decision help using technology for years. I for one wish it was in play for the League Cup final in 2010 ;-)
  20. To think it is more likely we will get Man Utd than anyone else is just ignoring basic statistics, or just usual Villa pessimism!
  21. Exeter City / Forest Green Rovers away please
  22. Yeah, I think so. A perfect short-term solution for both parties.
  23. Dominic Solanke? Talk of him going on loan in the Liverpool echo with quotes (unrelated tbf) from Steve Bruce. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-striker-dominic-solanke-should-13957916
