Steve Bruce

Pretty shit of him to walk out on Sheff Wed tbh.  Their finances aren't meant to be great, and I'd assume he knows this.  Hopefully they get some sort of tribunal compensation amount.

"Bruce is a football dinosaur"

This riled a few up, references to recent promotions and mocking of people who thought it.

Bruce gets sacked and within months Smith is playing a much better style, getting consistent results and wins promotion. Proving Bruce is a dinosaur.

"Bruce isn't the right man to get us up."

Again got the usual crowd worked up. Bruce gets sacked and we immediately get promoted. Proving Bruce wasn't the right man to get us up.

Any personal criticism of Bruce was met with strong defence of what a good guy he is. Bruce then screws over his current team, 2 weeks before the season starts.

Seriously guys, he couldn't prove his defenders this wrong if it was his only goal in life. Like i said, It's brilliant to see.

I really don't know why he wants to manage Newcastle right now

The fans clearly don't want him so he's onto a loss straight away, that squad isnt filled with good PL players, they won't spend money

If it was another club id feel sorry, but considering its Newcastle and how much they bang on about needed someone wo gets the Geordies love of football etc etc

The only way Bruce will be a success there is he reanimates the corpse of "wor" Jackie milburn so he can where the #9 shirt again

Because we all know only Newcastle "love their strikers up there"

Because he can't lose, he can blame everybody for his mistakes, he can blame the owner, he can blame the fans for not accepting him, this is the ideal Steve Bruce job.

I mean he has no obligation to show loyalty to footballing rivalries, it's just a job for him after all. Same goes for players. But it is an amusing bit of trivia that he's now managed both bitter rivals in 3 different cities

I think the main reason is because they are his hometown club.  He was born in Northumberland but he grew up in Newcastle.  As far as I can tell he went to school about three miles away from The Sports Direct Arena.

He's a Wallsend boy and grew up dreaming of playing for them. Didn't so this is next best thing.

If I'm allowed to defend him for a second I was reading Sir Brian Little's book and as soon as he got wind we wanted him at Leicester City he basically downed tools and made it known he's resign there and then to their directors. Maybe different stage of his managerial career to SB but we weren't much higher in the league than Leicester at the time so it's just that emotional pull.

I think I can remember Newcastle coming in for him when he was at SHA but guess he thought then he was just starting out in management and was too early. Now he's coming up to 60 and dosen't have long left as a manager so might aswell do it as bucket list thing. I agree it's poor form with Sheff Weds considering they agreed to his extended holiday.

Apparently Wednesday got 4m in compo, so I'm glad they weren't completely shafted.

That's good. I hope they do well this season. They have had a tough few years.

I don't understand why he needed to resign though if they were being paid compensation anyway?

To speed up the process I'd imagine. I could be wrong, but it also means Newcastle have to pay less in compo because they wouldn't have to buy out the remainder of his contract (the compo Wednesday would have had to pay if they sacked him for example). I'm just guessing here though.

I heard from an ITK friend that he fancied the Newcastle job because a new multi national company called Kebab international Ltd were setting up shop in Tyneside and offering discounts to important "celebrities" to raise their profile.

I also heard that he threw in the towel at SW and was on the way to Newcastle to put his name down for the Kebab deal and was even offered to be their "face of Newcastle", he unfortunately realised too late that the company was actually called Kebbage International Ltd, specialising in all variances of local and International cabbage conesurism.

Apparently Bruce is now their international mascot for the "Brucey Bonus Cabbage" variant.

No biggie though I hear he gets 1 free box a month as sweetner deal.

What a world we live in.

I can see how you arrive at this conclusion - however Bruce has form for this type of scenario - Brian is a humble man with integrity right the way through him.

I personally would not put them in the same sentence.

By the way I'm not in anyway inferring you have a slight on Brian👍🏻

On a similar theme, Alan Biggs, the Sheffield reporter who wrote an article which suggested it was the football world v Aston Villa when we played Sheffield Wednesday a few months ago, has received a few tweets of varying degrees of consolation today

Was just reading the Sheffield Wednesday forum in relation to Steve Bruce leaving.

I thought for a second I was actually reading the villa talk forum.....

Then I realised that's not possible, because they appear to hate Steve Bruce even more than most people here....

Let that sink in for a second....

Strange how nobody is slating Lampard for leaving Derby for his Dream job at Chelsea a week ago despite only being 1 year into his 3 year contract of a club that took a massive chance giving him his first managerial job

Or that he added to the age of the squad by signing 2 players 28 & over for a lot of money with potentially little to no resale value (for Derby anyway, Waghorn is their 4th most expensive signing ever and scored only 9 league goals),

and extended contracts of over 30's ,

Oh & and relied heavily on young loans from other teams & his 38 year old mate with no resale value,

and has let contracts expire at the end of the season....

oh and failed to get them up..

But it's ok because it's Lampard and his dream job...

12 months ago he said this : https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2018/05/frank-lampard-joins-the-rams-as-new-manager

Frank Lampard said: “I’m excited to be making my first move into management with a club with such huge tradition and history.

“I have spent considerable time discussing the role and the club’s objectives with the Chairman Mel Morris CBE and the board. We want to build on the club’s top six finish in the Championship last season, while at the same time bringing through some of the excellent youth and Academy talent we have at Pride Park.

“This is my first job as a manager but I’ve been working towards this for a long time. I’ve worked closely with some of the best coaches in the game and I’m confident in my own abilities and those of the team around me.

“I know it won’t be easy – managing a football team never is – but I’m here to work hard. I’m really looking forward to getting started and to the challenge ahead."
