Anyone else see this? This article was linked in a tweet apparently retweeted by Wyness: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3635530/Tony-Xia-complete-Aston-Villa-takeover-Roberto-Di-Matteo-targets-3million-defender.html

Quote

Tony Xia's takeover of Aston Villa is expected to be ratified early next week after he completes the formal process of being vetted by the English Football League with a face-to-face meeting with league chief executive Shaun Harvey.

Villa's new manager Roberto Di Matteo has already been given the go-ahead to revamp the squad and signings are imminent, including a defender from a Premier League club for several million pounds.

'Robbie's pull is already working,' a source says.

Sportsmail can reveal that background checks on Chinese businessman Xia have come back 'clear' and he has provided proof of funds to cover the £52million purchase cost from Randy Lerner, £24.5m to clear Villa's overdraft at HSBC bank and around £60m in working capital.

It is understood that corporate investigators working on behalf of the League and the Premier League have found no reasons why Xia would fail either organisation's owners' and directors' test (known as the 'fit and proper test'), clearing the way for the final formalities.

Some of Xia's credentials have been questioned largely because he has such a low profile even in his home nation.

Sportsmail has verified some aspects of his background, including that he studied for six years at Harvard University in America and does indeed own a portfolio of businesses in China.

Xia has shown Sportsmail bank statements purporting to show cash assets alone worth hundreds of millions and although these cannot be independently verified beyond any doubt by this newspaper, it is understood the English Football League and Premier League would not let the takeover go ahead if there was doubt over Xia's ability to fund it.

Xia will fly into Britain on Sunday from Los Angeles, where he is currently on business, and will meet Harvey in person on Monday morning before travelling north to Villa Park.

Xia will also meet the manager of the local HSBC where Villa do their banking and the deal should be completed and formalised early next week, perhaps by Tuesday.

Villa recently appointed Di Matteo as Villa's new manager and the Italian is, sources say 'already active in the transfer market'.

Sportsmail can reveal that Villa are close to signing a defender from a Premier League club for more than £3m and that deals are being discussed to bring in a goalkeeper, a striker and a winger.

Former West Brom manager Steve Clarke will be Di Matteo's assistant and both will be formally unveiled as soon as the takeover is complete.

I've bolded the interesting bits relevant to this thread. Sounds like Di Matteo and his team have been pretty busy already. Seems promising. Can't wait for Xia to be ratified next week so we can finally move on and make some changes.

The rumours are that the defender is Tommy Elphick from Bournemouth.

In terms of RDM being busy, from what we have read it seems RDM was the new Chairman's first choice. Given that a takeover of this sort is a probably a result of months of planning, i think its probably fair to assume that RDM was potentially sounded out some time ago. As such, he probably started work, albeit not officially, weeks ago.

Also, got to be checking out that released list. Players like Ramirez, Mariappa, Hangeland and Osman have got to be worth a look.

The last 3 definitely not. Hangeland and Osman were on their last legs 3 years ago. Mariapp mediocre by anybodies standards.

Middlesborough pulled out of deal to sign Ramirez because of a horriifc injury caused by Dale Stephens

you couldn't make it up!

Anichebe would be good, plus Raheem Hanley from Swansea?

Anichebe is horrific.

Just because they are free doesn't mean we should sign them :)

he really isn't that bad, certainly more capable than Kozak and Gabby, he turned us inside out a few times under Lambert, which i guess doesn't say that much, but we have to be realistic also and remember we are a Championship club now.

I'm fairly confident that those few times that he turned us (Clark) inside out, were his last goals, and definitely his last good games.

I have spoken to baggies fans who have said he is useless and slow.
