Look. He's old enough and ugly enough to take the punches that will come his way. He hasn't been good enough but what he needs to do now is dust himself down and go again. That record is unacceptable. He'll know that. He isn't daft. But let's not get carried away with the hysteria and the mad few. He's a fighter. It's such a good management formula.

1) No coaching.

2) Set the team up defensively and just tell the best players "Go on son!"

3) Scrape draws and wins, and disguise it as a masterplan.

4) Occasionally throw 4 strikers on (with no plan), and when it inevitably fails, say "See, this is why I play defensive football. The players aren't good enough to play tippy tappy Barca football. Wor just have to roll our sleeves up"

Repeat, repeat, repeat.

He's doing a relatively good job at Newcastle in fairness. Considering the type of manager he is, and how generally terrible he is at football management, I think he's overachieving by his own poor standards.

When Bruce wheels out the excuse that he hasn't got the quality up front to play the attacking football that he wants I think of Southgate, he has got the quality but he's every bit as inept

Southgate has fallen into that trap of not doing the obvious because he thinks it’s some kind of weakness.

I am not sure what part of Steve Bruce and Newcastle, concerns us, one way or another.

I am just grateful to have owners and a manager, superior to them.

We are doing great, that should be all we are concerned with.
