He's quite good from what I've heard, but like you I think Lambert would be going for someone younger on less money, 27 and 7 million is not a terrible deal for a powerful experienced striker though.

Do you think we'd splash 50k a week on this guy?

I mean I don't know a lot about the player myself.

One positive is that hes been at his current club for 3 seasons so at least we might get more than 1 season out of him!

Just because he's 27 doesn't mean we aren't in for him. Vlaar and El Ahmadi are both 28.

I'd say the wages he would command are the more likely stumbling block, if we're even interested. Which I doubt we are.

Possibly one for the Academy thread, but Swedish youngster Oskar Jansson will be arriving for trials on Thursday. He's a 15 year old attacking midfielder playing with Arvika.

From Värmlands Folkblad

Ready for the national team and visiting Aston Villa

Arvika FIFA giant talent Oskar Jansson not only made an impression on Sweden's national leadership in Halmstad camp. He also increased interest from Premier League team Aston Villa.
"I'm going to Birmingham on Thursday to train with Aston Villa," says Oskar.

The historic club from England have been watching Jansson already and now turned its attention by inviting the offensive midfielder to a few days of training, with Fredrik Soderstrom on Wagnsson Sports.

"It's mostly just funny, is not that many people get the chance to do this kind of thing. I'm not nervous, not yet anyway," says Jansson.

What to expect during the day in Birmingham he does not know much about, but it is clear in any case that Oskar going to a club with one of Europe's finest youth academies. As recently as last spring took Aston Villa home Next Gen Championship, a tournament for the 24 best academies in Europe, after the final victory over Chelsea 2-0.

FLASH: Aston Villa have made an enquiry for Jimmy #Briand we understand. More information here: http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/aston-villa-make-enquiry-for-jimmy-briand/ … #OL #AVFC

27 year old Jimmy Briand? The fella who scored 1 goal last season?

Sounds like an agent trying to find his player a final pay day.

It could also be down to the fact that we now know that the english press don't have a clue who Lambert is after. Links are just being ignored (more than normal).

Last season we would have got at least 3 pages out of that Jimmy Briand link!

or that we're pretty set. If Benteke stays, we have our squad for the coming season sorted.

we even have a load of players to get rid of, maybe then we can think of getting an extra n°10.

Also I would like to see some youngsters go out on loan asap: Burke, Johnson, Carruthers and maybe even Bowery should go to the better championship sides or even a PL club if we're lucky.

am I the only one who's thinking... newcastle want bent, benteke could get us 25 mil and Papiss Cisse will not play with a payday loan company on the shirt, and mike ashley ain't going to drop it for one player...  so we lose benteke get 20 - 25 mil maybe more give newcastle bent plus somewhere in the region of 2-5 mil cash ... we get a replacement for benteke maybe not as good but not too shoddy, keep at least 15-20 mil of the the benteke fee, get darren bent off the books and everyones a winner ... p's summer heat and magners draught are not good combination ...
