Yacouba Sylla

I'd be surprised if Benteke, Weimann N'Zogbia and Agbonlahor all started. Extremely attacking line-up. If you have 4 defenders, that only leaves room for 2 midfielders. Who is going to supply them? 4-2-4 doesn't appeal to me.

I think you need at least 3 midfielders out of Bannan, Sylla, Westwood, Delph, El Ahmadi and Ireland, and I think that's probably how any manager will set us up.

makes no difference how good he is if he isnt played in the right formation

good luck to the kid, i dont thnk anyone is expecting too much, just to get him settled at the club and prepare him for championship football next season

I do hope this guy's decent. He doesn't have to be a world beater but I hope he's not a liability because we're desperate for someone to do his job. If he can hold his own our midfield will look a lot more balanced and our defence won't be quite so exposed. It's Bannan or Westwood for me - not both - and Delph or KEA. We don't have anyone else to be the big nasty bastard who stays put and wins the ball.

Welcome Yacouba - no pressure.

More or less this.

Though I still have a faint hope of survival. Normally kicks in about 48 hours before a game, then 49 hours and 50 minutes or so later, *poof* it's gone.

Anyway, another kid to watch develop. Championship or not.

Bannan has been doing very well and is the kind of player that is the future of football. Sylla is the player for a role that is becoming extinct (Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Everton, Tottenham, Arsenal, Swansea - no regular specialist defensive mid).

Edit: except Ramires for Chelsea.

This Sylla boy will be useful for us, especially right now in a relegation fight, but unless he can demonstrate an ability to pass and shoot like Dembele he will be rotated with a more offensive player when the occasion demands.

are you his dad or something? he's not very good

he's not quite as bad as some around here make out, but you talk about him like he's genuinely a top class player. the guy wouldn't be in the top 50 midfielders in the premiership ffs

not saying Sylla's gonna be mint coz ive never heard of him either but does anyone remember that young kid we signed who never went on to do anything in his career here or elsewhere that graham taylor took a punt on even though he played for some shit part time club on trinidad somewhere. Talk about a nowhere club in a nowhere league. Hadnt even scouted him just saw him play against us in a friendly I believe. Nightmare. Never played in a top league and he was like 15 or something!! what a stupid idea that was.

much rather we signed players with prem league experience like Djemba Djemba - Beye - Heskey - Warnock - Hutton - Shorey - Jenas - Ireland......zzzzzzzzzz

**** it, just throw him straight in I say.

Delph's not match fit just yet, so give him a run out alongside Westwood against Everton and see what he does.

He's probably not very good but can he be worse than Bannan, at least he might run around and tackle players.

I'm not writing him off, I just feel he isn't what we needed in our current situation.

All the best though 'eh kid.

Interesting that he is a defensive midfielder and says "[sic]That is why we play football, to be spectacular" not the usual choice of words from a DM :) Gives me hope he can play a bit this bloke.

I got a good feeling about this fella. He looks big and strong. Hopefully hes good in the air. Doesnt need to do much in attack at this stage. Just win the ball and give it to the attacking players.
