Sam Matterface of talksport said while previewing todays game "Villa, who haven't really improved under Emery since Steven Gerrard left"

For **** SAKE when will it **** end

Sam Matterface is an idiot, but after that comment he's an even bigger idiot than I thought.

Wasn't Danny Murphy slagging us off the other week saying we'd probably be 11th if Gerrard was still there or something?!

It's just lazy punditry and research. They probably think we were 11th when Gerrard was sacked (we were 18th I think) and just look at the league table and think we haven't done much but 11 points clear of 12th shows we have improved significantly and we're very unlucky not to be in top 10 but those just above like Brighton and Brentford have gone on very good runs themselves since November.

I’m assuming MOTD must have cut some of our highlights so they could get the Conte meltdown in. Didn’t show the Watkins chance which was arguably the best chance of the game.

It's been spoke about in the Emery thread, but **** me, Crooks has excelled himself this week.

Quote

Jacob Ramsey (Aston Villa)

It was an impressive home win for Villa, who have been steadily climbing the table. Unai Emery is quietly going about his work without attracting too much attention to himself, or his team for that matter.

So what's changed at Villa Park since Steven Gerrard left? If you listen to Ramsey, it would appear an awful lot. The striker is playing considerably higher up the pitch in a role he likes and that plays to his strengths. His confidence is sky high and he's scoring goals. He blew Bournemouth off the pitch. It would appear Aston Villa now have a grown-up in charge and not a manager who was learning on the job.

Obviously the Gerrard line is funny, but he thinks Ramsey is a striker. "His confidence is sky high and he's scoring goals". This was the first goal he scored since November.

Genuinely think he's got him mixed up with Watkins. :D

I don't usually click on football articles that pop up on Google search, but I had to on this occasion, even knowing it would be bollocks. The complete lack of shame of it made me laugh.

Robert Lewandowski makes Barcelona transfer request ahead of summer

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has called on the club to dip into the transfer market during the summer in order to become more competitive next season.

Barça have had much-publicised financial problems over the last couple of years, but committed almost €160m towards new players last summer and brought just under €50m back in through sales.

They were not even able to register every new signing and contract renewal with La Liga until after the start of the season because of caps on spending power – €50m buy Jules Kounde missed the opening two games as a result of that delay.

Barça executives had to search for extra income and managed to secure cash injections by activating various ‘economic levers’, effectively selling off a proportion of various future earnings.

That strategy has sort of worked, seeing Xavi’s team drop only 10 points all season to top La Liga with just 13 games left to play. Victory over Real Madrid in El Clasico at Camp Nou on Sunday would extend their lead over Los Blancos to 12 points and all but seal a first title since 2018/19.

But the Champions League has been a different story. Barça were knocked out at the group stage for the second season in a row and didn’t even make it past the first knockout round in the consolation Europa League following a two-legged aggregate defeat to Manchester United.

Lewandowski, who joined from Bayern Munich for €45m and has scored 25 goals in all competitions, isn’t asking for miracles but has suggested there is still need for improvement.

“There is a good team,” he told ESPN. “Maybe one [or] two changes makes this team, not perfect, but more competitive. Sometimes we talk about small things, but if you change this, it will be even more spectacular.“

Discussing Barcelona’s shortcomings in Europe, the Pole added, “This season we had problems in the Champions League and that is what we must correct, but up to now we are not ready to fight at the highest level for [all] the three titles: Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey.

“It is impossible. In football it's impossible to change something in a week or a month, it takes time.

“I always wanted to play in La Liga. You know Barcelona have a lot of problems. But when I saw the path they wanted to take, I said: 'I can be a part of this.'

“I saw the I challenge myself and told myself that I was ready to take it on. I may be 34-years-old but it's just a number and I know I can play several years at the highest level, I don't know exactly how many, but I've always been happy to play. I care more about the mental than physical things.”

I still think it's appalling, though, and completely ruining the internet. Does nothing to convince me that most football news outlets aren't just spam and junk.

Gale is awful, as is Gary Birtles.  Jim Beglin isn't much better.  But quite honestly, the worst anti-Villa commentary I've heard in the past year or so was from our former captain Andy Townsend.  It's like he was going out of his way to prove he hates the club.

I am surprised you think that. Townsend always speaks highly of the Villa and I always thought he thinks of us as his club. He played his best football with us and is still (nearly 30 years on) the last captain to lift a proper trophy for us. Him, Tyldesley, and McCoist give me a nice warm feeling of nostalgia back in the day when champions league football was shown for free on terrestrial tv.

Kaveh Solhekol on Sky Sports is such a bad journalist. Not sure how he's still in a job. Everything I hear from him is just made up rubbish.

"Iv'e heard from my source at Man U, the glazers 'may' not sell if they do not get the 6 Billion wanted for the club".

"These Saudi's are not the sort of people who back down where money is concerned"

"My sources tell me Conte will not be here after the international break. Although the same source told me a meeting is imminent between Conte and Levy and they might decide to keep him till the end of the season if they cannot find a replacement".

Any of us could have made that shit up.

It's incredible how under the radar we are.

Football Weekly this week finally seemed to catch on, but even they said they basically hadn't noticed

Let them not notice, the less they notice us the better IMO.

He's an IRL version of a twitter ITK.

Only he's more annoying because you have to listen to him to know what spam nonsense he's spouting, alongside whatever else it is you wanted to hear from sky sports. At least on twitter you can block the specific spam artists you don't want to hear from.
