Ashley Westwood

I wish he would grow a pair of balls and take the odd risk, he is like a selfish bowler constantly bowling short so his figures don't look to bad. He's just to safe for my liking, not in a Carrick keep it simply sort of way, in a petrified to cock up sort of way.

Veretout looks a far superior player in mind.

Got rolled again c the 7-8 minute mark.... a few good diagonal passes that catch the eye and help keep him in the team....He did improve.....Need a better player in his position.

He was our best player in the first half, despite a shaky opening 10 minutes. The only one in claret and blue who actually tried to play football as opposed to just smashing it up to Gestede. Linked up well with Bacuna a few times and played the only decent balls to the strikers that we played in the first 45.

Second half Veretout grew into the game and Westwood seemed to feature less.

Decent performance overall.

A lot of the good stuff that Westwood does occurs on the edge of perception. He's not really a player who'll look amazing on a highlights reel, but over the course of a game his contribution can make a difference to the team, some might say we need to replace him, but to find someone better would cost a fortune.

Having Clark as a DM highlighted some of the stuff Westwood is good at.

Such as getting on the end of defensive clearances and making sure the ball goes to one of our players.

As opposed to getting on the end of defensive clearances and booting into the stands :D

For some reason he's being asked to play the role Delph was last year pushing forward with the ball.

That's not his game and he's no good at it. For the last month he's had Clark and mostly Sanchez getting in his way.

Crap, crap, crap corners. Grealish took some last year that were great, and didn't Amavi have some pre-season? They need pace.

He had a bad game vs Wba and now all the haters think that's enough to write him off. He had the most key passes with 4 and the most interceptions also 4 last night and had a good game. He's been playing good this season and it's quite pathetic that all most people can throw at him is that he puts in bad corners and the myth that he only passes sideways or backwards, I'd agree on the corners but other than that he has been one of our best players this season.
