IF they could have then it is writing off a potential recepit. If they could not sack him then they drastically diminish any remaining value in the player by disciplining him and making it clear there was substance behind the allegations. No further action leaves the way clear to sell him if we can and sort of hides the nature of the allegations because it looks less serious.
