Popular Post mikeyjavfc Posted April 27, 2016 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted April 27, 2016 I want to believe! There has been so much bad press and bad vibes out of the club of late that I need to believe that a 36 year old cancer survivor can return to captain villa. It's the feelgood story we all need. Talk about romantic nourishment...

Talk about romantic nourishment... This sums up my feelings a treat. I would absolutely love this to happen. It would send shivers down my spine to see Stan lead us out again and I’d have a tear in my eye. Stuff of fairy tales maybe but it won’t be for the lack of effort on Stan’s part if it doesn't happen. The fact he has got to the stage where he believes it is possible is remarkable. The guy is a true inspiration and whatever happens I am so proud that he played for and captained my club. ozvillafan Posted April 27, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted April 27, 2016 My enduring memory of Petrov's playing days are that he was regularly subbed off with about 15 minutes to go for Steve Sidwell..... ... because he had covered so much ground and put so much effort in, there was nothing left in the tank already. What I wouldn't give to see any of our current crop of players do that.
Popular Post srsmithusa
I have Leukemia as well (different form). Petrov and I compared symptoms in a brief chat once. One thing I can assure you, his red blood count was dropping long before he had a diagnosis. That means his ability to move oxygen to his cells was decreasing. He had nothing left in the tank because he ran himself into the ground while his body was not moving oxygen to his muscles as efficiently as it should. Courage, Strength of will, and character. Exactly what we are missing now. Exactly what makes him a legend. I'm thrilled he's training. I will also say that going back into training after chemotherapy is a heroic act of will, as well. I'm thrilled he's training. I hope he is able to contribute more as time goes on as a player, a role-model, and a mentor.

R.Bear
Whether he does or doesnt come back and actually play, this is a fantastic story and some much needed good news at the Villa. 36 going on 37 means **** all and especially in the Championship. It sounded like you were saying you weren't sure why Stan waited so long to fully recover form cancer Christ no. Yeah perhaps I did word it poorly. Apologies. mikeyp102
Would be great to just have around the dressing room even if he barely played. Best of luck Stan
grobs
We've got this guy willing to play football for the club he loves after his illness and then you have Okore refusing to be on the bench. Stan is a legend! More people with this sort of passion and fight and there is no way we would have been relegated! Will be such a great occasion to see him return on the pitch if it happens! RichiBoi11
To be honest I think they need to give him a contract for at least next season, regardless of how much he does or doesn't play, he'd be an excellent influence in the dressing room; something that we have been sorely lacking during this diabolical campaign.

Popular Post JAMAICAN-VILLAN
Quote The pictures that prove Stan Petrov is serious about an Aston Villa return Former skipper shows off his progress as he battles to get fit for the new season When former Aston Villa skipper Stilliyan Petrov told Our Man At Villa Gregg Evans he was ready to make a comeback, he meant it. And he has tweeted pictures today to show just how serious he is about making a playing return. Petrov sensationally revealed last month that he wants to play again after he was forced to retire after being diagnosed with acute leukaemia. He is in training to come out of retirement and is planning an assault on the 2016/17 campaign. Petrov said he has been embarking on a secret fitness plan for 18 months: "I have decided to start trying to play football again at a higher level again. "I am very excited. People will be asking a lot of questions, and will have a lot of doubts. "I always believe that if you work hard, you will get fitter. "My fitness is getting close to when I retired, so let's see where we go. "Aston Villa remains my priority." http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/pictures-prove-stan-petrov-serious-11399187?
TheFirstMan
Sorry, Stan - I don't mean to piss on your bonfire, but I don't think it's worth coming back. I'm delighted that he's got himself back in shape and he beat the illness. It's a fantastic achievement. Stan couldn't keep up in a lot of games at the peak of his career, I can't see him being ready for a slog of a season.

TheFirstMan
Maybe a coaching role, or a role in and around the squad would be the best idea.
Popular Post Ginko
What an absolute hero Truly inspirational to anyone, not just Villa or football fans. So glad he's one of us. Give him a role at the club, anything. He'll give his all for the cause and hopefully his story and example will have a positive effect on everyone else.
