AdamDouggie
Darren Bent given games scores goals shocker! You need more than a tap in merchant in the premiership these days. By the way his two goals tonight when he came off the bench were two of the biggest tap ins you will see. If only Benteke would find the correct positions in front of goal like Bent. I am not criticizing anyone, but to say the goals were just tap-ins, makes me wonder why Villa has only scored 11 goals in the league when it is so obvious that tap ins are so easy and effective. because the point is you dont get many tap-ins in the Premier League Can you prove that? A number of top players have made a career in the premiership feeding off tap ins! Bent being one of them.
Zatman
well how many Premier League strikers would you describe as a poacher or tap-in merchant now. Defoe maybe and he only came back after Sunderland got desperate and Falcao a great predator has got 3 goals so far this season. The days of Van NIstelrooy or Inzaghi are gone, strikers have be more well rounded
YLN
He's making his excuses for why he didn't blossom at Fulham and Brighton. He's just trying to save face. He's not stupid, he just has seen the options available to him next and he's sure they'll still be there whatever he does. He just wants his name in the papers to remind some PL clubs he still exists, and that he wasn't left out in the cold because he's terrible, but because PL is a fool. He scored 2 in 5 starts at an out of form Brighton team so you're wrong there. Sample size not large enough. Bent does score goals. But the rest of the team have to carry him. That's why he's not playing PL football. You can't afford to play with ten men in the PL. In the five games Benty played at Brighton they got 2 points. 2 points from 15 available. In the five games after DB left, Brighton won four times. Yes a five game sample size probably isn't big enough to determine whether or not Bent is PL quality, but two five game samples and the fact that he could only get a loan to a poor Championship team probably give some indication that he's not quite at the races. I wouldn't mind having him at Villa til the end of the season though. He's playing for his career. He probably wouldn't be happy with a little cameo here and there though and wanted the shop window of a Championship team.

He is at a decent championship team now and seemingly, again, doing the business. Saying that I think his time at Villa is now dead and buried. Maybe with a different manager or a different approach it could have been different. Edited January 27, 2015 by Brumstopdogs

VillaChris
As I've said Bowery scores goals in the championship, Weimann would score goals in the championship. Bent had a start and a few sub appearences this season and didn't do anything, he's a busted flush at prem level.

Mantis
Even Gabby would probably get at least a dozen goals in the Championship.

Problem with our squad is we dont give these types of chances to our strikers.. how many chances does Benteke get per game? how many was Bent getting... yes they may get 2-3 chances.. but no striker puts every chance away.. I think Darren Bent got a hard time for missing a few chances.. Anyway hes gone and thats that. Best thing about him gone is it frees up alot of wages. KHV
The reason Bent doesnt work for Villa is the woeful lack of quality in midfield, the piss poor tactics and the horrendous style of play Lambert adopts. For what its worth I actually think Bent would work upfront with Benteke and Gil sitting in behind. Bent is a closed chapter now anyway, hopefully he does well at Derby as I thought he was treated poorly by Lambert. Bent also did not do himself any favours he could have had an attitude like Huttons but everyone is deifferent. Lambert and Bent dont get on so thats that. StefanAVFC
Doing the business? Scoring goals in the Championship, when you're fighting for your career does not equate to 'can still do the business in the PL'. Not at all.

Stevo985 Posted January 28, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted January 28, 2015 As per usual, a player is getting better when he's not playing for us, because we're not doing so well. It happens all the time. it's why people are clamouring for Bacuna to be in the team when he's not actually that good. And, to a lesser extent, Grealish. Bent has been in this team, and he's been absolute shite. He's played a season in the prem for somebody else. And he was absolute shite. Stop pretending he's better than he is. omariqy
Bent has proven when he has played for us and Fulham over the last few years that he is not good enough. Bacuna on the other hand is proven otherwise. Whatever you may think.
