The thing is, basically every cricket lover would agree with you….2 years ago. But what England have done is juddered to the new reality, and got there first. With the 365 days a year, multi format nature of cricket now, the old conventional wisdom is now unconventional.

Whatever the outcome of this game or series, the way they’ve done the prep is the new normal. Extended in-country prep and warm ups is out the door. There’s some downsides, as you suggest, but there are more upsides.

No Emery is staying he’s got no affinity to Barcelona and they’ve had plenty of chances to hire him in the past.
