looks good and faithful in some places but at the same time i find it hard to have any confidence in it being even half decent

I've skimmed through the trailer on mute as at work and it already looks far better than the Milla Jovovich ones.

Yeah I definitley thought that, didn't look daft if that makes sense given the context of what it is

The story from the games isn't that bad so sticking to it should be close to enough

Looks like it might be decent, even if it's just the set piece nostalgia. Think I'll have to see it as loved the first game. My GCSEs would have gone a lot better if I'd not stayed up almost every night playing it.

Interestingly looks like they're doing more than just the first game. Thought they would have spread them out a bit.

Ah yes, Resident Evil, that bastion of seriousness

A nice excuse to discuss an under appreciated directors work.

Some controversial standings there...

Cheers. One of my favourite directors whose purple patch of earlier work was absolutely phenomenal.

I'll give this a watch over the weekend and probably disagree with most of it 😄

This looks like they took the first and second games and smashed them together, but not well. It also looks like the budget on it is very, very, very small. In a bad way.

And the CG, oof. The recent Resi 2 remake genuinely looks better than some of that.

Oh and why is Leon played by someone who looks absolutely nothing like Leon?

Watched James Bond, No Time To Die, this evening.  I liked it, I think? I need to take it all in and perhaps even watch it again before I can make a true judgement on it.  I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone wishing to see the film, so do not read my hidden comments if you don’t want any spoilers.

**spoilers**

Spoiler

Really torn between several emotions watching this film. I’ve seen plenty of people moan about the run time, but it flies by and doesn’t feel overly long. The opening sequence was great and started like a true Bond movie should. The Bond song is easily forgettable though for me, it’s just no Adele and Skyfall, if looking solely at the Daniel Craig Bond films.

The action when its present is great. All the car scenes, chases and locations are of the usual Bond high standard. The 00 agents on screen are a pleasant surprise and could have played a bigger role but we know why they didn’t here. Q is just Q and I hope we see him in many more Bond movies to come.

A major dislike though came from the main villain, Safin, who is certainly underused and not memorable in the slightest. He gets built up at the start and then stays invisible for so long. Initially Blofeld in the Craig Bond films and now Safin stay undetected from the world but Mr White was tracking both so easily it seems? Think it may have been more believable if Safin had been part of Spectre but then got greedy and decided to go rogue from the organisation? However, here we have just another madman wanting to destroy firstly Spectre, then turn on the whole World without real reason, just didn’t seem believable at all.

However, the main focus is obviously Bond himself and his clear vulnerability now. I don’t mind it, it shows a human touch. Bond doesn’t just have to be a cold assassin with no feelings. I’m a soft person and I know this, the closing stages and the end got me. It did. Did I like the end though, I just don’t know yet? Being a parent of a young son and daughter has made me get tearful at the slightest things. You just want to keep hold of something that’s precious to you.

I’m glad I’ve seen the movie but out of all Craig Bond films, I think in my mind right now this one falls closer to Quantum of Solace and Spectre, rather than Casino Royale and Skyfall. Ask me again in a few days/weeks or once I’ve had a second viewing and I could consider it a classic Bond.

Finally, I’ve really liked Daniel Craig as James Bond. Overtime, I think he’ll be considered one of the best. Connery still has that for me but Daniel Craig has certainly done the franchise justice.

Just back from Bond

is it fair to say it’s the worst Bond film ever ?
i mean it’s not really a Bond film , everything you loved (or hated) about Bond has been removed  … , it was like a nod and a wink to every Bond film whilst doing everything they could to make it as un-Bond as possible .. and then what you  were left with was a kinda jumbled mess that made no real sense .

It has some moments , it’s not terrible … it’s just not really Bond

You know how when it’s late night and you are channel hopping  and Casino Royale is three quarters of the way though and you really should just switch the tv off but you stay and watch the rest of the film even though you’ve seen it 20 times …. I just don’t see anyone ever wanting to watch this Bond film a second time …guess I’ll know the answer to that when it’s on ITV3 at 23:00 on a Thursday night in a few years time

I'm super excited for Dune.

I’ve not read the book etc but from the trailer I watched I couldn’t help think I was just watching another Star Wars film just without light sabres ?

I’ll still go see it , be great to finally find out what it’s all about having heard of dune for years and years

Quite a few people have said this about Star Wars and a number of other sci-fi films - it's probably worth keeping in mind that Star Wars was massively influenced by the Dune novels.

well, considering the original Star Wars was very much influenced by Dune (in terms of the general genre), then maybe, but tbh it might look similar, but the underlying story ark is very different if you follow it through to conclusion.

Dune is more space Game of Thrones (the not s*** bits) compared to Star Wars being more space Harry Potter, although Dune came before all of them!, so yeah.

Yeah, same point i made above, Dune was the big daddy that influenced a lot of these genres, like Star Wars, Space Odessey etc.

Also i think its interesting listening to what some people are implying about Dune who havent read the books or seen the movie yet, as i smile when i see comments around "a hero trope messiah movie", when i see that, its clear they know nothing about dune, and have never so much as read the first of the book series, because its closer to a space tragedy than a space messiah hero movie.

Even more than that, Jodorowsky's storyboards for Dune were a big influence on George Lucas in the way he developed his vision for Star Wars (and the production team that Jodorowsky had put together went on to make Alien look as unique as it did).

It's a pity that version of Dune never got made, but not a complete surprise as Jodorowsky was a barmpot genius who approached the studio with a twelve hour script and a request for a massive budget that was never likely to be fulfilled.

Quantum of Solace takes some beating as the worst Bond film.I think there was a strike by scriptwriters at the time so there was at least some excuse.

But I agree there is a true test of any film that when you are channel hopping late at night even though you have seen it many times you stay up to watch it,there are some films you can’t turn off ,Withnail is one ,Good the Bad Uglyetc another

Indeed. 100% manure.

This new one is basically a rom-com though. Roger Moore would be turning in his grave.

Nice to see Tim Blake Nelson getting a lead role, great actor. It's getting rather good reviews too so on my list for the weekend.
